Location: GA USA | I replied in Jakes S771 thread, but my brother in law has started asking Ovation questions, rest his soul. Like me, he loves his old Yamaha FG300 (I have an FG 200), but he played my S771 over Christmas and may now have the fever. When I told him that a new American O would cost $600 or more, I'm not sure he was ready to commit.
Who has a good Ovation for less than $500? This may be our chance to set the hook on a real sucker fish. |

I suspect he left some cases afoot and was subject to SWMBO-DEFCON Level 3 which resulted in the need to execute a RIPID (Rapid Inventory Plan for Instrument Dispursement).
Wideneck, 12 fret to body and deep bowled. Well within the $ range. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My wife knows how many guitars I have. She kept telling all the relatives I have 14 and I thought she was counting my daughter's 2 guitars. Turns out she was right and I forgot to count a couple. |

Right now, I'm on vacation in Tenn, and have 3 with me, and I'm looking at a Tak at the Music Outlet. Come to think of it, I'd better take an inventory, cause I don't know either. :rolleyes: |

As for bowl-bends, not something you want do with java-jitters, anyway. My "tweak" on the Academy neck involved a 2" shim, tapered from 1/32"-to-nothin'. Baby Bear was right.
I don't have a critter in need of adoption, at the moment. About 4 empty bowls, with necks, awaiting tops, though. |

When I get back, there will be two leaving one way or another. One is promised to Povation, and the other to Gway. I think that will put me down to 7, if I'm not mistaken. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | As usual, she was right. 14 not counting 2 of my daughters that have been with us for 6 months. I tried spreading them out, leaving one at the cabin and one in the family room, but had to regroup them near the humidifier for the winter. One is in open D tuning and one in drop D, and as soon as I decide which one I'll leave in double drop D, I'll probably need a few more just for regular tunings. |

It's the next best thing to a baritone. I have a couple of long-time keepers, and the rest are either awaiting new homes or still on probation...until I see the next one I have to have... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I forgot about DADGAD. Once I tune another one to that, I'll need another guitar. I don't think SWMBO will realize how easy it is to change the tunings on the ones with built in tuners, or to use my Korg tuner for the others.
My excuses for buying another guitar haven't worked very well before, so I am not optimistic. |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Yeah, excuses never quite hold water. I just keep them moving so fast she doesn't have time to keep count. As long as they continue moving out as well as in, I'm golden.
I actually bought a Boss TU-2 tuner a while back, which I use on stage even with my O's. My only complaint about the Ovation built-in's is the lack of control over muting while on stage. It's the kind of thing that would be dynamite on the next generation of preamps. |

Location: GA USA | Thanks. I showed one online to my son. His response was "But your Balladeer is so good looking, and this one's kind of ugly." I know the Lusty Red is not everybody's cup of tea, hence the dig at Capo, but I've always liked it. I don't like the pewter, though. |
