I replied in Jakes S771 thread, but my brother in law has started asking Ovation questions, rest his soul. Like me, he loves his old Yamaha FG300 (I have an FG 200), but he played my S771 over Christmas and may now have the fever. When I told him that a new American O would cost $600 or more, I'm not sure he was ready to commit.

Who has a good Ovation for less than $500? This may be our chance to set the hook on a real sucker fish.

One of the BFLG brothers in Florida has parked a Folklore at my house.
I suspect he left some cases afoot and was subject to SWMBO-DEFCON Level 3 which resulted in the need to execute a RIPID (Rapid Inventory Plan for Instrument Dispursement).

Wideneck, 12 fret to body and deep bowled. Well within the $ range.

she knows it's there.... I told the Cap'n it might still be looking for a new home and to contact you for the details.

add the proceeds to the "O"rphanage and rehab center and parts depot maintenance accounts if he's interested in it.

they know how many there are.... we don't fool them a bit...

Is this place fun or what?

It is currently strung with mediums and has a nice set up. I need to have coffee with Seesquare and discuss Bowl-bending and Neck-resets.

That and the fine art of titrating.

My wife knows how many guitars I have. She kept telling all the relatives I have 14 and I thought she was counting my daughter's 2 guitars. Turns out she was right and I forgot to count a couple.

I'm sitting at a nice even 11 right now...12 counting the one in pieces at Woody's house.

My wife doesn't even try to count. :D

Mine come and go so quickly lately, my wife has come to terms with it. She really has no idea how many I have scattered around. Right now, I'm on vacation in Tenn, and have 3 with me, and I'm looking at a Tak at the Music Outlet. Come to think of it, I'd better take an inventory, cause I don't know either.

I kinda keep my menagerie spread out, too. Like "open range", with no plans for a round-up.
As for bowl-bends, not something you want do with java-jitters, anyway. My "tweak" on the Academy neck involved a 2" shim, tapered from 1/32"-to-nothin'. Baby Bear was right.
I don't have a critter in need of adoption, at the moment. About 4 empty bowls, with necks, awaiting tops, though.

TJ, send me your address and directions on how to get into your house while you're gone. I'll take inventory for you and have it ready for you when you get back. In fact, I can tell you right now that the count will be down to nothing and you can start over.

Well, I see you've got 14 in your signature line now. I hope your missus didn't type that in just to prove her point.

Actually, I live in Buffalo, so you might want to start there. ;)
When I get back, there will be two leaving one way or another. One is promised to Povation, and the other to Gway. I think that will put me down to 7, if I'm not mistaken.

As usual, she was right. 14 not counting 2 of my daughters that have been with us for 6 months. I tried spreading them out, leaving one at the cabin and one in the family room, but had to regroup them near the humidifier for the winter. One is in open D tuning and one in drop D, and as soon as I decide which one I'll leave in double drop D, I'll probably need a few more just for regular tunings.

I'm with you there. I have a really nice all-koa Tacoma (really bassy) that I have in DADGAD right now, which I use as my alternate or backup stage guitar. It's the next best thing to a baritone. I have a couple of long-time keepers, and the rest are either awaiting new homes or still on probation...until I see the next one I have to have...

That's funny . . . "SWMBO-DEFCON Level 3" that is a nasty place to be. I wish him God's Speed with his RIPID. Let us know how it turns out.

I forgot about DADGAD. Once I tune another one to that, I'll need another guitar. I don't think SWMBO will realize how easy it is to change the tunings on the ones with built in tuners, or to use my Korg tuner for the others.
My excuses for buying another guitar haven't worked very well before, so I am not optimistic.

Yeah, excuses never quite hold water. I just keep them moving so fast she doesn't have time to keep count. As long as they continue moving out as well as in, I'm golden.

I actually bought a Boss TU-2 tuner a while back, which I use on stage even with my O's. My only complaint about the Ovation built-in's is the lack of control over muting while on stage. It's the kind of thing that would be dynamite on the next generation of preamps.

Thank you everyone for responses. Just this AM, I got a offering on a Elite T that's killer. Looks like I'm going to sell him my S771, take some Christmas money, and upgrade to a T.

Capo Guy, it's Lusty Red... your favorite! :p

Congrats, sounds like a nice trade-up. You and your brother-in-law will both be happy. Make sure to bring the T down next month, I'd love to try her out.

Thanks. I showed one online to my son. His response was "But your Balladeer is so good looking, and this one's kind of ugly." I know the Lusty Red is not everybody's cup of tea, hence the dig at Capo, but I've always liked it. I don't like the pewter, though.

Not in real life. The pewter looks good on a computer screen, but not up close and personal.

The lusty red looks nice in pics...I loved my black one.
