Location: Chicago | Now that I'm a full-fledged Adamas fan, I am wondering this: Are there any #47 RI's left out there? Is the 3,500 price tag basically rock-bottom? (I have this idea of unloading my (esentially new) Al DiMeola Signature (1769 AD 11 2005) in order to finance the Adamas.) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | It is not out of the question that some store is still sitting on one. But these kinds of stores are usually not the same place you would find a "rock bottom" price.
The guitars have now been out there for a year and a half. I think your best bet would be to find an original owner who might have put the guitar through it's paces for awhile and now be interested to sell it. Although I doubt the prices have dropped much below original retail. For $3500, either new or used this is a hell of a deal for a guitar this nice.

STK, the U681 and 47RI are two completely different guitars. The obvious cost difference of the materials and the amount of hand labor in the 47RI is significant. Just look at the epaulets alone. Or the body binding. The fretboard. The list goes on and on. Nobody would ever have any problem justifying the price difference between these two if you look at them side by side.
Which one sounds better? Which is more practical? Which is easier or more fun to play? That's all subject to everyones personal opinion.

i just checked again. it says $3499 "backordered - available 1-21-08". that is most likely in error. they probably have none and cannot get any more. |

Location: Chicago | Yes, I'm well aware of it's properties, including the all-acoustic feature. Just seems to be the best Adamas out there and I was puzzled by the scores of phony "availability" listings on various commercial sites. Al answered my question. Thanks. |

Location: Tennessee | The OFC (a blue 47 with two-knobber stereo preamp) could be the best Adamas out there save the original slotheads. You can get something similar custom made if the factory will build it and you can afford what they'll charge for it. You can go to the Adamas Custom Shop Website and go through the different options available to you. A member from France got a really nice custom one made in brown. |

when something is a limited edition of this magnitude and you want to bottom feed you need to do it when they are in production. At this point I would not be surprised if these guitars show up at twice the selling price.

Location: Chehalis, Washington | It's the same inherent problem with anything highly collectible...supply and demand. Once the supply runs out, you have to be either desperate or just plain dumb to let something go for less than you paid for it, let alone what the market says it might be worth. I know that at least a couple of these went for a little over 3k originally, and I'd be very surprised if you could touch one for less than about 4k now. IF you find someone willing to part with one. |

Location: Chicago | In my defense, Al: I literally "woke up" to the whole Adamas world last month when I got a 1581 for my B-Day. I guess you could say that for years I had no clue, I simply "didn't get it". Now I do, and HOW! I am one of those (one of you's) who really loves the Ovation sound in all its varieties. For me it is synonymous with guitar. I have no interest in Martins or Wechters (yes I know they are wonderful). So I begin my Adamas quest late in life. What to do? I certainly have no intention of "bottom feeding" on this instrument line. In fact, I am still only figuring out all the different options and models: Adamas I , Adamas II, 1681, 1581, slothead etc. I need to take a class!!!
Sadly I was unaware of all the action that took place two-three years ago. I bought the 1769 ADII, shoudda made a more informed choice. *Sigh*

Location: Boise, Idaho | This really would have been a more logical guitar for me than the OFC. I've probably plugged the OFC in twice. I prefer the red. But SWMBO said she'd buy me the OFC for my birthday and she likes the "blue ones" better than the red ones, so I wasn't going to argue. Someday a #47RI will come up for sale after I've won the lottery and the kids will be done with college and will have settled down with good jobs. As soon as that happens, I'll be ready for one. Meanwhile, Al's Koa on ebay is rather enticing. |
