A blue one listed January 13. Pictures looked like they came from an Elderly ad. You guys can go find it. If I go back to try to post a link, I'll want it and won't ever finish this post.

Listed yesterday and bought by someone like me! I would have contacted him right away too.

A lot of you guys hate the blue but it's one of my favorites, still. Unfortunately I gave my last one to my ex and all I have is these black ones now...

I think the ad is confusing and means that the 1581 is no longer made, but this guitar is still available.

As of last night, it is. The seller says he's had several emails, but hasn't sold it yet.

Looks like the whole ad was cut-and-paste from Elderly, including the pictures and "no longer available". Make sure he really has the guitar before sending money!

Actually, if it's not at Elderly's they are not supposed to use their ad. If it truly IS for sale for that much, someone has a REAL opportunity to have a killer Adamas.

One of you guys was supposed to buy it, so I can quit thinking about it. The ad says it's a deep bowl, but I thought the 1581s were mid bowls. OMA, you're awfully fussy. That's often a good way to save money.

1581's are deep bowls. I'm waiting to hear from the seller about pics.

Mine is brown.
Not that keen on the colour but love the guitar.

If someone is interested in this, you can view current pictures of it here .
Seems like a nice guy. He's selling the guitar for his mother-in-law.

I'm definitely interested if no one else who has talked to the owner is. As a new member of the OFC and non-Ovation owner, I could defintely use some help. Is this worth $800? Is there anything in the pictures that looks like it could be a problem? He's offered to have a musician friend look it over. Any advice is appreciated. Please post it here, email me, or pm me. Thanks!

kotadawg - that's a helluva guitar for $800. Assuming everything checks out on the up-and-up you could spend that much and do a lot worse. Personally, I'd take the chance. Even with some issues, a trip to the Mothership could fix them and you'd still wind up spending less than what these can sell for.

You could do a search for 1581 in the For Sale section and find that the last couple years these have sold for $1000 to $1500 and the single epaulets without the treble sound holes seem to be more uncommon and desirable by those who prefer a bias toward bass. Or you could just believe what I just said, look at Waskel's pictures and go for it. Maybe one of our Portland members could take your money and pick it up for you if it is as good in real life as it is in pictures. After a short test period, they might even ship it to you.
I think if it was red, I'd have had my daughter in Portland buy it for me. Then we'd wait for SWMBO to try to figure out how she spent $800 on the credit card we gave her for "emergencies." At this price, I'd call this an emergency.

Fretboard looks a bit worn but well worth the asking price of $800.

Kotadawg, you could look a lot longer and do a lot worse than this one. I would grab it.

Yes, it's worth it. If I didn't already have one this one would no longer be available.

That's a great buy :)
My first Ovation was a 1581.
By serial number it's a 94 model and I bought it in 2002 NOS/demo from a music store here in Brisbane.
At a tag price of $4899 I'm not surprised it had sat around. I paid $2000AUD

This one may be gone. It was on ebay today and pulled off without any bids because it was no longer available for sale. I didn't get it. Did anyone here?

Same pictures that he put on ebay. Maybe he decided he had enough interest he didn't need ebay. I think his BIN was $1200.

Could be, Mark.
Odd that after being listed for 3 days on ebay, the only bid was $1..

Thanks for all the help. I've emailed the owner several times and he's been very responsive to all of my questions. Time to take the plunge. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
