Never saw one on ebay before...only a few pic's. No doubt the seller doesn't realize what he has.

many believe the 1537 is the very best sounding wood-topped ovation ever made. the 1547 is the cutaway version.

It's the cutaway version of the 1537.

Or, if you prefer, the non-bling version of the 87C.

Thanks. Is there a cutaway version of the 1718?

I'm not positive, but my guess would be the 1768 . It looks to have all the same specs with a cutaway.

The 1547 is a great guitar, Jack.

If you are looking for a great sounding cutaway addition to your 1718, grab the 1547. Wood binding, Two Knobber Electronics, Walnut Fretboard...

As rare as the 1537 is, the 1547 is the rare of the rare. Ovation was just starting to built cutaways at that time and I don't think a lot of 1547's were built.....

One negative thing about them: They are damn heavy!

But with changing the electronics to the newer ones (that have been built for the Adamas 30th Anniversary Reissues) you could lose some weight.

Charlie Ramon did it with his wideneck Adamas, and he said there is a big difference in weight. And in sound as well.

I swapped out the electronics in my 1537 and to be honest, didn't notice any weight difference. Big difference tho', in plugged in sound.....

Beautiful guitar, Kurt. Of course every one of yours that I've seen is beautiful. Are the 3 finish cracks a concern?

Thanks Jack.

Well, this is a question only you can answer for yourself. If the cracks are only in the finish, no problem. They won't affect the sound, and the chances that those hairline cracks go deeper to the wood someday are minimal

For me personally, I'd never buy a guitar with finish cracks. But that is said from someone who is more a collector than a player.

If I weren't already getting Stephen's 87C this month I'd be on this 1547 like flies on stink. Somebody here needs to snag this (but DON'T BID IT UP EARLY!!!!).

edit - minor finish cracks can be repaired by the Mothership.

the only crack is in the winshield. it's been chopped so that won't be cheap to replace.

If it sounds half as good as my 1537 I'll be one happy gator. I miss a cutaway.

Got 3 of them now (2-C10 Deluxes and a DS2H)with a 4th on order (OM) and been eyeballing one on the bay really hard :p

I have to say I really love the sound of them over the Martins which is why I will probably be cutting the Martins loose over the next month or so.

Collings, Takamine, and Adamas....variety in my own little guitar heaven!
