Hi. My name is Otto and I have a guitar problem.
I didn’t know what it was at first but then one night I stumbled onto this board looking for... I don't know... some kind of fix or something. Really, I've been fine for years, been happy with my plain jane Alvarez, and had all but forgotten my old SG languishing in it's case behind the couch. Then I found this place and something just took me over and I... I... I just out of the blue hit up a complete stranger for an Adamas Q597!
It-was-gorgeous-what-can-I-say-I-couldn't-help-myself...

Anyway, Keith had already sold the guitar but was very kind and suggested that I keep an eye on the board for other guitars and so I started reading. It’s all becoming clear now. I’ve read enough now to know that my demon has a name. Yes, I have GAS. And I am apparently not alone in my affliction. I need help folks. What do you say? Is there room for another wretched soul in search of an Ovation here?

Welcome Otto.
Plenty of room here.

So are you saying you want a Q597?

Now just pull out that folded leather and little bit of plastic, then...

In Jan '07 I purchased my first Ovation. My sig line proves that Ovational GAS is hyper contagious, at least in my case!

(Rod Serling's voice here)You have just entered the Ovation Zone!

Enjoy the Ovation 'hive mind'.

BTW, if ya really want to 'sweat' don't miss the Southern Style Jam II in your neck of the woods in June!

Welcome Otto! I agree with the above. Make plans to come see us. You'll get the chance to play some dream models, and meet some worse losers than yourself.

Welcome, Otto, to a realm of souls of a variety of wretchedness, seeking to acquire what is necessary to be delivered from the purgatory of G.A.S.

Welcome Otto and glad to have you. Soon you'll be reveling in the wonder of roundbacks and the mothership; the joy of finding that "one" Ovation or Adamas that you just couldn't live without; the gut wretching insiders view into the inner workings of UPS, FEDEX, and DHL; and along the way you'll meet some fine folks! I echo the invitation to the Southern Style Jam II (info can be found in a thread on the general postings page). It's a generally harmless group but a warning: it is highly addictive! (although I dont recall it having killed anyone yet, lol) Enjoy!

If you're still on the edge of the pool and have just tested the water, dive in. As Mike said, no one has drowned yet. I think Noah had a Q597 for sale awhile ago.
I was fortunate enought to buy a 1537 from him and that was the start of my downfall.

Otto,

Welcome to the "OFC's support program"

12 Steps of O&A/A

1. We admitted we were powerless over
GAS—that our lives had become unmanageable (without another guitar).
2. Came to believe that a collection of guitars greater than our own could restore us to sanity. (yeah, Right!)
3. Made a decision to turn our will and credit card numbers over to the care of AL as if we understood him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our guitars, and how much fun they are to play
5. Admitted to CWK2, to ourselves and to another OFC Member the exact nature of our GAS.
6. Were entirely ready to have AL put us down for the next LAV Custom model when they're available.
7. Humbly asked Him to hold our checks until after payday, and not to tell out wives.
8. Made a list of all persons we had given GAS to with our guitars, and became willing to help advise them on their next guitar acquisition
9. Made direct efforts to help such people (with the OFC, AL, Ebay links, etc)wherever possible, except when to do so would jeopardized an amazing deal on a guitar we've been waiting years to get our hands on.
10. Continued to take a personal guitar inventory and when we had GAS promptly sought/traded to fulfill it.
11. Sought through the OFC, Al, and Ebay to improve our collection (even if that means trading and selling off a few guitars to make room for something new), hoping only for knowledge of a great deal when we see it and the assets to acquire it without hassle.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this
message to WOOD BOX guitar players, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Amen.

prairedog, I see that you have only 1 Adamas in your sig. You have been here for 2 months, is there a problem?

It took me a year or so to get to number 2, but I used up the time and money on about 10 more Ovations.

When you live in the most remote city over 100,000, aka Boise, Idaho, you might have an excuse. I either played my first one at Dave's or the Ute at my house after I bought it. I can't remember which was first.

Once Again the OFC has caused another case of GAS whilst, in the background, an evil laugh fills the silence we all grin that little greedy grin, look at the wall of guitars, kick back in the computer chair and know that and all is right with the world.

Mark, you would think I'd have all kinds of places to try 'em out in a city like Seattle, but the closest 6 Ovation dealers don't have any, and don't really ever bring any in for stock.

4 of these places are Guitar Center. They usually have 1 LX, 1 or 2 elite Ts, and a bunch of celebs.

Sucky.

I heard there was a place in Tacoma that might have one, but that's an hour drive to play one for a few minutes.

I'm hoping someone brings one (or ten) to Miles' place.

Wow! Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Man, I came to the right place didn’t I? This OFC site… What a resource. And what an amazing board. You folks are all great!

2ifbyC, Captain Lovehandles, MusicMishka: I’m definitely going to look into the Jam. Not sure how I’ll keep up with you guys jammin’ but the company sounds great!

Damon67: No relation to Jim but he’s almost as good looking as I am. :D Seriously though, I've always thought it would be cool to meet him.

Noah: I’m not sure what I want. …first. :)
Keith’s Q snapped my head around because I thought any kind of Adamas would be way out of reach for me. Maybe not. I was pleasantly shocked at what he was offering it for.

What started this fire was a friend who has an Ovation. He hadn’t owned a guitar for years after having his right hand pretty much destroyed in a work accident. But about a year and a half ago he bought a couple guitars and a small amp with the idea of learning to play again. The left hand was still fine and we did come up with some options for picks that he could hang on to but then he got married and lost interest in learning to play. Anyway, to make a long story short, he recently bought a house that needed a bunch of work so he brought his guitars over to my place for safekeeping until he’s done remodeling. One of them is a beautiful natural 1768 Elite. You can guess the rest.

I’ve been living with this sweetheart for a few months now and have fallen in love with my new roommate. It’s been wonderful but alas our fates are not entwined. Her master is not selling and I can’t go on knowing that the awful day is coming when he will come for her and I will be left alone... and empty… and Ovation-less.

So I’m searching. And with what I’ve learned in the past few weeks (mostly here!) I think I may be narrowing it down a bit. Definitely want my first Ovation to be USA. Adamas of some kind is on the list of course, but my first love is still the Elite.

How deep am I dreaming if I’m looking for a natural finish non-cutaway Elite? Like a 1537 or a 1718? Are there others?

I love my EliteLX. Plays like butter. I'm one of the oddballs here that would rather have a cutaway though.
