Buy it for $400, send it to the factory and for another 2, you'll end up with a great guitar for very little money....

Yep. It'll be interesting to see what the reserve is. Even $800-1K for the auction and repairs would be a deal. These are KILLER guitars.

What Paul and g8r said.

Even if you dig a little deeper, it's worth every penny.

You can never go wrong with a 1537. Nice Sunburst too!

The decision would be... Do I just wanna use Elmer's wood glue from the inside, and try to fill it with colored wax from the front?
Or send it to Mother?

With a total rebuild, it would be a beautiful guitar.

With Elmer's, it would be a Classic old guitar...
And probably still sound great.

Send it to the factory. It won't take much to make that guitar right, and they will go thru the whole thing to make certain that all is right.

I just hope there's a way to repair the guitar without having to replace the top, otherwise what's the use?.. But, anyway it's one of the longer auctions, so it'll be interesting to see how high it goes. Even with a crack it's still an original 83 Elite and that's a prize possesion in my book.

Another potential bargain. Unusual to see 2 of these at the same time. Someone here (HEY NOOBS LOOKING FOR A GIT - I'M TALKIN' TO YOU) really needs to consider these.

Steve, this one's not a 1537. What would the model number be, 1718? 1618?

And the factory could do a great job with the crack. You'd see it, but never be able to feel it.....

Right - not a 2-knobber. Still a nice git. It'd be a 1718, the 1618 is a GC 12-fret slothead 12-string.

Looks like my 1718 but in Burst. I've emailed the lister to see about checking it out in person.

I agree with Moody - I got one for $650 or so and it cracked during shipping. I sent it to the mothership and $400.00 later with shipping it is not the great bargain I was hoping for but it is a great guitar for the money. Same thing with my 1769 but it had to get a whole new bowl assembly, but is essentially a new guitar with lots of bling for relatively little money. I should buy this and change my name to Cracked-O.

Moody, that's correct, my oversight. It's a 1718. That's the only other quality USA Elite I'm familiar with, of course we still have the standard models I guess..

the restorations John, Kim, and crew that have been done for me are outstanding... granted the shiny 12 and 1537 are basically new guitars now.. but I couldn't have gotten a mint one of these for less than I paid for the guitars and repairs combined.

my 1537 had multiple issues and got a new top/bowl as did the shiny 12, and both are now very nice examples even if not original.

the repair on the one currently on e-bay would probably be much less than I had done..

BUMP

Ending soon. Dirt cheap, even with full restoration by the Mothership.

wouldn't be hard to seal the crack, maybe even make it very hard to see.

within a couple of days I will post (not for sale) a couple of pictures of a dark sunburst Custom Legend 1669...CYA was all over the top, multiple finish cracks to include a couple of bad ones (filled with dirt and old wax)...now some of the finish cracks are no more, others are very difficult to even see.

Interesting....I am thinking about selling my DC400 to try out a VXT. Just haven't been able to pull the trigger yet as I really do like my Carvin and the VXT is an unknown. But...abiding by the one in, one out rule.
