Hello, I bought this guitar in 1994. I am asking $600 plus shipping. I don't know what the -X means on the model number...always been a mystery to me...anyone know??. I am selling to buy a Fender Acoustasonic Strat...I know that sounds crazy to Ovation fans and I have enjoyed this guitar immensely over the years but I am ready for a change.....I will upload pics as soon as I can figure out how to convert a 350kb jpg to something less than 100k...anybody got an answer here? I can email the pics to anyone who is interested in the meantime. It is in great shape and only one very small ding on the end of the neck where it hit a wall once when it fell off the stand....extremely minor...pics will highlight this. All else is very cool....case has been through the wash but is still very strong and durable. Offering it here before the old Ebay thing...thanks. Hal

Very interesting! The -X usually means some sort of prototype or custom, I think. In looking at your pictures, it looks like the top may be walnut? Any idea if the top is solid or is it a laminate? Other folks here may know more about this guitar than I but one thing is for sure ... it's is unusual!

Good luck!

It has a clear and hard protective surface...don't know if that is laminate or not but it is nearly indestructible....thanks for the comments.

I'm new here and maybe there's something I'm not clicking on, but I don't see any pictures. How do I access them? (I see pictures in other posts)

Halv put them into his gallery. Go to member access, click on gallery, and go to his name. There's lots of great pictures to peruse from a lot of different folks in there.

Welcome to the board, Richard!

Ah, now I see it all. The top would have to be solid wouldn't it? Surely they wouldn't put a laminate on a legend? Looks beautiful though. I'm just saving up to pay for the other half of my 2008 Collectors

The Ovation website is not always right, and ... the -X makes it something other than stock. I think Randy's right, probably angel step walnut. Maybe a proto for the limited editions of the ASW? I believe the ASW's were lam ... Beal would know for sure. Regardless, fairly rare guitar and quite the looker.

Could be walnut though I've seen similar figure in sycamore and mahogany. What is strange is that it looks to be a 1-piece top rather than bookmatched. That may suggest that it's ply, but regardless it's a very cool and unusual Legend.

Wow. That is a unique top. Wonder how it sounds compared to the sitka tops...Dumb queston maybe, but would it be impossible for it to be a one- piece top? Anyway, you don't see many of those.
Beautiful.

me too....here is another interesting thing...I never knew you could lower the action on the Ovations by removing the shim under the bridge...I'm just not good at these things....but I just learned this and took it out and now the action is unbelievable....how could I have missed this simple thing for so many years.....I would like to put in a very thin shim now if possible...any idea where I can get one?

Are you sure you don't still have one in there? There seem to be 2 in most Ovations that I've had. There are thick and thin ones, but I don't know how to measure them. If you took out one of the thick ones, putting a thin one back in wouldn't change much.
I just bought a guitar that had 3 in. I took out 2.

yep....there was only one about 1/8"...took it out and the strings sit pretty low with no buzzing and no shim at all....I just can't bang it hard you know....so I will just go down to the quitar shop and see if they can give me one.....thanks...I once had a friend of mine work on it for me to adjust the action and it's possible he could have taken them out and just never told me....it was awhile ago....sounds and play fantastic....

ok. Now I need the cash. Between jobs now...not a paycheck in sight...kids hungry...utility bills due in two weeks...you may have been there....will have to sell if job doesn't come through on Monday....any takers for my baby before I go to ebay?....would feel better knowing it is in the hands of someone who will treat it well.....reducing price to $500 plus $35 shipping. Will buy it back for same price in near future (when the house sells) if buyer should decide not to keep it.
