Time to shake things up a bit, so my Eclipse is on the block.

Like a Tornado covered in black polane (bowl enamel) with chrome hardware. This is a hollowbody, not semi-hollow.

Serial number H 085, 1971-1973 vintage.

In great shape. Has brand new NOS electronics installed. Bigsby B7 tremelo.

I have the pick guard, so I can put it back on or leave it off.

Comes with hard shell case.

This got played a bit in Mt. Vernon.. please chime in with your reviews if you'd like!

More pics on the other side .

Asking $650 shipped CONUS to an OFCer. More to ship elsewhere. Thanks!

I liked it a lot!
I also made templates of the pickguard and can reproduce them in Ebony, Maple, Linoleum, etc.

David's stuff is good an I'd trust him.

So why did you pull the original electronics?

Would this make a good Jazz guitar?

This one is in great shape. The prior owners must have either treated it with loving care, or hid it and then forgot all about it.

I bought an extra set of electronics for it when I bought it, meaning to wax pot the pups and have a spare. Gave up on that project along the way and sold off the extra set. I put the nicest/cleanest set in the guitar.

I bought it to be my blues player but my guitars exceed my skills. It sounds good through both my Epi Valve Jr and my Shen Jr. I just noodled with it at home, so I couldn't give a good comparison of the hollow-body vs. semi-hollow with respect to sustain and feedback.

This came to me indirectly, but was from Miles' collection.

Only if the guitar player plays good Jazz.
It looks great. I didn't even bother with anything that had to be plugged in when I was at Miles. Now, dvd's Redwood, on the other hand. That's something I could get used to.

I didn't get it. It was a just a reference to a HG2G character who owned a car so black that it looked as though even light couldn't escape it.... Unfortunately, like all before them, it was destined to be crashed into an nearby star during the grand finally of his plutonium rock band (Disaster Area)'s show, hopefully causing solar flare damage to *that* half of the planet...

I don't get it either, Fred, except for the dysfunctional part.

I've played this axe. Two thumbs up!

My Tornado is currently my favorite electric to pick up and play. The trem is a must for me. Playing it clean through the clean channel of my Carvin amp is very bluesy, and the coolest tone I think I've gotten from any of my guitars. If I plug into the Standel and give it a bit of vibrato and reverb, it's got a whole new unique vibe as well.

bobbo, you have one of these? You could do some kick ass surf stuff with it. It'll look good with the glasses too.

I wish I had the $ in the music fund. I've been bugging David about this thing for months now, long before I played it.

This will be a sweet player for some lucky bastard.

Good luck with the sale David.

I have that on my Screen Saver, only before it got the Bigsby. Now I have added the newer photo.

I have always liked that one.
(It inspired me to buy that Oscar Schmidt clone.)

Just to be clear, Fred was making a joke, not an offer. This little slice of none-more-blackness is still available!

DVD, it's definitely a cool guitar and of possible interest to me (if someone doesn't grab it first which they should probably do), but I am currently checking out very closely a Froggy Bottom F12 that has my attention and priority.

Good luck with it!

We've got an exact replica in the herd...along with a sunburst Tornado - and they are both the ones my hands (and ears) naturally gravitate to!

And the Black on Chrome thing is even more sexy than an accordian crossed with a banjo...

But seriously - this is one of the most under-rated guitars Ovation ever built (imho) - and that comes from a real O' snob...and it plays clean & sweet or nasty & raunchy, depending on one's style (and ability!).

Someone needs to adopt this one - you won't regret adding this one to your collection (or coooollection)!

I played Crim's Tornado at church Sunday. It sounds fantastic through an acoustic amp (I just got a Shen stereo 60). JB was right about playing like an electric, whereas some hollows play like acoustics.

Does this guitar have blue-ish fret markers on top of the neck? That was a little wierd at first with the Tornado. Old guys need more contrast.

That's a great looking Eclipse. The tailpiece breaks up all the black nicely... so yes it could be blacker. It used to be.

Fret markers are white dots, Cap'n. This is like a bulletproof Tornado. The finish will probably never crack!

Thanks to all the northwesterners who chimed in after playing it!
