This guitar has more mojo than any other Ovation I've owned. The tone and volume are astonishing. It just stonks. It is truly a player.
The only reason I'm listing it for sale is because of the 1-11/16" nutwidth and find myself going to my Josh White for the wider neck.
The guitar is in very good condition, however, it is not mint.
"Issues":
-I repaired a finish crack from bridge to heal. The repair is excellent. You will not be able to find it.
-I also repaired some cracked and loose purfling along the treble-side waist. You can see this repair, however it is very subtle and unless you are looking right at it, you'd probably not notice it.
-Some very minor nicks on the neck, sound board and bowl but, only very minor.
-1/4" jack connector installed (no electronics or wiring, however)
-Pickguard shadow (somewhere in it's life it had a pickguard that has since been removed and left a "Shadow" in the top's patina.
All that said, this guitar is in great condition.... and aside from the pickguard shadow looks that way. But this one is a player and sounds absolutely fantastic.
Clifford spent a day or two with this one and I'm sure, would attest to the guitars sound and condition.
I will post other pics when conditions permit, but here's one for now. It shows and exaggerates all marks on the top.
(I was going to send this guitar back to the Mothership to have a wider neck put on but, was told in hardly uncertain words... to "leave it alone" by certain persons who work there.) |

I struggled with the decision to put a 1-3/4" neck on it. I was truly afraid the tone might be changed. After the aforementioned "Mothership" advice, I just couldn't do it.
Truth be told, I don't mind if it doesn't sell. I still pick it up to play just to hear it . . . despite my preference for a wider neck.
I should add that it is in fantastic playing condition. NO issues. and the original Rotos work like new. |

but, they haven't made THIS Balladeer (Deluxe) for a very long time. This guitar is 40 years old, in great condition, with all original parts. |

Location: South of most, North of few | I've got the two reissues, (JW, and Balladeer) and they both sound better than the standard (rough finish) bowl models. (Balladeer and say an 1114) Now my question: WHY? Is it the three piece top, different bracing, or something to do with the smooth gelcoat finish on the bowl. I could see it if the others were that lynacord (sp) plastic, but they all are fiberglass bowls with only the outer finish being different. Any thoughts? |

Could be VooDoo...

Location: Boise, Idaho | Well, d----bag, if you wouldn't have posted it a couple days after I bought the reissue, I might have an original instead. The RI is a boomer, so I assume the originals are also. They really put out what I consider to be the authentic Ovation sound. |

- different tuners
- different peghead angle
- different 12th fret inlay
- different rosette
It wouldn't hurt to own both but they probably sound very similar. |

For someone with "girlie fingers" who can handle a variety of neck widths, however, this would have been more attractive to me than original Josh White, because I have the Folklore. Or I might just have forgotten about this one among all the interesting suggestions I had about how to spend my money.
Dave, which has the greater peghead angle? I thought my reissue had the standard angle. It's less than the angle on the Matrix but appears to be the same as all my others. |
