I don't know any more about it than this: they are what they are as far as I know...I have two Brazilian guitars and a complete back and side set w/peghead and bridge...they match very well...I don't have the DNA...They are how they were sold to me...

They are superb items, but whoever told you they are Brazillian Rosewood lied, and you should not perpetuate the myth. I could sell a ton more of mine if I said they were Brazillian (many of them have the colour and grain structure to convince the inexperienced ) but I have ethics, unlike it would appear whoever sold you yours.

I have no plans to buy anything else from that buyer, and in fact Paul, I show and tell everyone about the quality of the buttons you sell...they're first rate! Merry Christmas all!

Maybe you need to advertise them as "pre-ban" But be sure it is actually "pre-ban" and not just that you "believe it to be pre-ban" if the rosewood is pre-ban, it can still be sold...a Merry Christmas!

Next thing ya know we'll need provenance for plectrums... Education at any level is appreciated but requesting PMs after failing to use 'em in the first place is not very diplomatic. BTW, I have four pre-ban AR-15 receivers that were grandfathered prior to the Clinton-era ban. Guess what? They are and have been legal! I also have a neighbor that collects pre-ban ivory.

If somebody came here trying to sell a Celebrity as a USA Ovation, because that's what they'd been told it was and beleived it was, they'd be corrected, in no uncertain terms, It happens regularly. This is no different, the subject matter is just a little more esoteric.WOW! A respected OFC member represents an item as represented to them and gets slammed...

I ran a retail music store for nearly 7 years...I did well but I don't miss it...thanks for reminding me Paul...lol

So if these parts are not made of pre-ban lumber (are they?) would I have needed a permit to import my JW and DB rebuilds with their new BRW brigdes? Karl

Joined: September 2005 Posts: 3619 Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Wow! Quite a discussion on rosewood tuner buttons. I like the look of rosewood and have been contemplating a set from paul also. I personally don't care what country the wood came from though. (although I do appreciate the concern over the depleting rain forests) I'm sure niether I nor most other people couldn't tell the difference on a set of buttons. I DO however know a couple of luthiers that have LOTS of old wood stock in their possession that has been laying on their supply shelves for over 20-30 years.
