Since we don't play this Deacon anymore, we are using it to fund the purchase of a an Ovation 6778lx (or similar). In this market, it looks like $650 plus shipping should get me a nice one. Would consider trades but my budget is limited to the proceeds from the Deacon, so I would like to stay in the same ballpark as far as value goes. I've uploaded some pics to the newer and improved gallery. (Some of you have seen them) Those pics were taken mostly so I'd have something to look at while I'm kicking myself later. I have additional photos that show more detail for anyone who's interested. Just let me know.

If you let go for $650 you will certainly kick yourself. Good luck with the sale/trade.

I did like the figure in that Deacon body and I do have a sweet litle 12 string neck sitting around.

Hmmmmmm...

Super Fine? I think in this case it might be San Francisco. The price is so low that I'm tempted even though I don't need it.

The SF stands for San Francisco. I live just south of there and that's where the photos were taken. Sorry

I know. I've had it for over 25yrs and I'm real conflicted about letting it go. I just don't play it enough and when I gave it to my son, it still sat behind the couch. He plays, but he never picks up the Deacon. I think he's worried about messing it up or something. If I replace it with something that's really nice, I'm hoping he'll play without worrying about messing up "Dads Deacon". Blah Blah.. Anyway, that's kind of why I'm hoping to get something special to replace it. It's not really about the money, it's knowing I'll be able to replace it with something he might keep for 25yrs

You and me both. I toy with the idea of selling my Deacon from time to time, but haven't really followed thorough yet. Mine's NOS and perhaps not true vintage, but to me it's a very special guitar.

Our stories still sound strangely similar. I think if I can't get $1000 for it, and right now that seems doubtful, I should play it more let it take whatever wear might result.

You might need to redefine "safely" though!

Fran-ken-STEEN!

Following the shipping and probation period I have the intent to place the gorgeous 12 string neck that came from Talbot's Vintage Parts Imporium on the Deacon. Then I might actually remember how to play it!

So...

The Redwood Family has a retro Viper and an LX Ultra to help them pass the agonizingly tepid Winter months in California.

I have performed the Neckanoptomy and I am really pleased with the way the wood tones match.
It's good to have a twlelve string back in the herd!

Thanks Dave!
