Really AJ... I've spent a bunch of money on guitar-stuff and presents and such lately.
(and I'm on unemployment :( )

But I'd be really upset if this thing goes for $265 and nobody here got it!

It is a buyers' market out there...
(which means that I can't sell any of my beaters for what I paid for them)

I've been watching it, too. That and a nice wood-top 12-er.

Serge you can have the 12 :D

BTW I would have had no objection to TJ taking my Proto to your gathering.

I can understand and appreciate his reluctance. No matter, I'll get to see it in March :)

AJ, if you really want the Patriot I'll defer. It's just that when I first showed SWMBO the Patriot & the 12-er her comment was "well, if you don't spend more than about $500 on each then I won't object. It's only when you start spending more than $2K on multiple guitars that I start to have a problem." To my ears that's a green light for getting as many guitars as I want in this buyer's market ;)

I have to chuckle how we call ebay such things as ebarf, evilbay, etc. Yet deep down I think we all love it, all browse it every day and would probably all be devistated if it went away. Talk about getting no respect ...

That Patriot looks nice. Would look nicer if you painted over the bumper sticker.

Wonder what the sticker is made outta...

And how many people have wiped-over one with the wrong stuff just to see it fade/streak/peel/whatever.

Serge if you want it go for it, all is fair in love and guitar collecting.

I would really prefer a "John Lennon"

So f@@king hard being an Ovation enthusiast in Oz!!
But fun really!!

Here's a chance for Beal to beat me over the head with the facts, but I've taken a close look at mine, and this is what it looks like to me:

First, I know it's a stencil because the original ads describe it as such. Second, it appears to be painted (not a decal). Third, it's beneath the final finish, hence it isn't going anywhere unless you strip the whole top and sand it down.

This guitar definitely falls in the love/hate category for folks. I personally think the stencil is very cool and certainly unique. And since the stencils were destroyed after the production run, I actually feel that this is one of the more collectible Ovations because they cannot completely reproduce it. If you have a 2009 OFC calendar and want to see the stencil close up, mine is pictured in July. The same pic is on my ning page.

Playability and soundwise, it's an A-braced Custom Legend, and there ain't a thing wrong with that!

I recall reading that after they ran out of the decals, a few years passed, then they released the same guitar, sans decal, as the Legend Limited.

I spotted this and thought I'd sneak in a bid for $250 or so today and get it. What's the saying about doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results? This was my second choice behind the Balladeer Reissue, and I would have paid more than twice what this one is at. Timing is everything, but rarely my thing.
Serge, it sounds like you've been sitting at the green light too long already. Better get moving.

There's a flaw in my designs - there are actually 3 other guitars on Ebay that I would love to get right now - a solid body Viper (my first electric in 25 years), a S/B 1659 12 to match my S/B 1619, and now the S/B 1538 that would go oh-so-well with my S/B 1537. Too many choices, and there's no way SWMBO would allow all 4 at once!

Totally agree!
I can hardly wait until the 2076 Patriot version is released!

Serge, I know the feeling. There are always too many goodies for the available funds. I'd like to have more experience with the available funds part, though.

I decided to wait until noon and put in a bid around $350. I just checked and it's there already. It's not going to be cheap enough for me to get in the doghouse over. We have too many other expenses right now. What else is new? Hope somebody else here gets it.

This is worth way more than where it is now...somebody is going to get a fabulous piece of Ovation Guitar History...cheap...looks at least as nice as mine (mine is near mint) @ less money...

537.00 now. I don't know if I'd go that high on it. Of course, I'm not a fan of that particular model either.

James,

My post wasn't implying our membership if you took it that way. I have an odd feeling that there is at least one non-OFCer lurking out there with crosshairs on it.

It sure is pretty...
