There's the one you want. ACADEMY SLOTHEAD

This is the wideneck slothead version with the rosewood fingerboard. Same model as mine. Awesome guitar. You'd never believe what it's made of ...

Is this "better" than a 1763?

Is it made of wood? Plastic? Cheese? I give up.

You can put nylon strings on it like a 1763, some folks do. But it's designed as a steel string guitar. Like an FD14. This one has the adjustable height saddle which makes changing from nylon to steel easy.

The only wood on the guitar is the neck, fretboard and bridge. Top is one piece plastic with integral plastic braces. OK they call it something else, poly-wolly-do-dah-whatever, but it's fucking plastic.

I know what you're thinking. A plastic soundboard? Don't laugh. No, this isn't THE best sounding Ovation you will ever hear. But it's in the top 50% for sure. And talk about maintenence free ???

I've sold off a lot of "regular" ovations because I just didn't care for them. Mostly the sound sucked. This one I will keep forever because I just love the damn thing.

Crazy stuff, almost the ideal guitar to play in the bath. Shame it's not 100% plastic.

Gets me thinking, there's a niche in the market there! Perhaps I'll try my 1680 in the shower, it's mostly waterproof ;)

Agreed. Got one, also. Actually, this auction item looks to be in better cosmetic condition than mine, too.
Somebody needs to adopt this critter. At $200.00, it's a fair price.

The one piece plastic top is way better than the laminated ones, imho.

and now it's been removed..... email from Ebay...

"Unfortunately, we had to remove this listing and cancel all bids. We don't like to remove listings -- it's disappointing for everyone -- but sometimes we need to do it.

There are three main reasons why we remove listings:
-- The listing doesn't follow eBay guidelines.
-- The item isn't allowed on eBay or can only be listed under certain conditions.
-- The listing contains pictures or words that may create copyright or trademark issues."

The slothead with the rosewood fingerboard is the one you want. No disrespect to the KA-14 but that aluminium fretboard ain't for me. The slothead with the nice wide neck is oh-la-la nice. The KA-14D that was on ebay even had the adjustable saddle (but narrow rosette). These are out-fooking-standing guitars. Seek one out and buy it. Don't ask questions, just buy it.
