Well, I guess after 25 years it was inevitable. You guys have been wondering about the delay in the OFC CD, so I might as well tell you what's going on. I've decided to end my marriage.

It was a fairly good marriage, but not perfect. 25 years is a long time and a lot of things changed over the years. Most for the better. But I always held the feeling that even in the best of times there must be something better. Some better way to do this. The end all happened pretty fast, I wasn't really planning on such a life changing moment (who does), but the realizaion just hit that enough is enough. No time is a good time, but now is as good as any. So I took one long gulp and out came the words "that's it, I'm done, it's time for a change".

The actual seperation was rather dramatic, as one might expect. Unfortunately I did not have access to a Trebuchet, so I did the next best thing. Opened the second floor window of the music room and out she went onto the sidewalk below. The explosion of plastic and metal was truely wonderful. Power supply, wires, circuit cards, just shit flying everywhere. After the dust of impact settled I went down with a small sledgehammer and finished off the job in a scene that would have done 'Office Party' proud. Ironically in the end the only recognizable part was the little sticker that says 'Genuine Windows XP'. Fock Em - Microsoft, Dell, IBM, blah, blah the whole much of them can kiss my ass. Registry error THIS, you MFs !!!!

So I marched down to the Apple Store, waded past the line of 125 people in queue to buy iPhones, and I bought the biggest god damn iMac I could find. I don't know all the tech shit but it's got a screen bigger than my TV and a freaking 1TB hard drive, what ever the hell that is. It's loaded up with Logic Pro and an Apogee firewire interface. I haven't got a freaking clue how to use it, but that's OK. The learning is always the most exciting part of any new relationship.

Within 5 minutes of powering it up I made two significant observations, 1) how could I be so stupid for so long, and 2) I will never ever in a million years go back. NEVER.

But now the hard part, I've got to recreate a lot of my old shit on this new platform. I obviously have all the CD submissions, so that's no problem. I was originally tweeking them in SONAR and would burn in PYRO, but the new machine will do fine. My own song was not final mixed, but I have all the wav files and a few midi sequences so I just need to load and recreate that in Logic, should be possible. Email accounts and my various webpage stuff will need to be reworked a bit but that's second priority right now.

Anyway, that's what's going on the last 48 hours of my life. I do have a question and favor to ask ...

If you are a MAC user, and especially if you migrated from long time WIN use, please send me any tips and suggestions. I've checked out a few good websites and I know some members here are into it (Jeff? Clive? Waskel? ....) Please help bring the newbie up to speed.

Thanks,

Dave

Today Phoenix...

Tomorrow, The World!

David,
make full use of Exposé and Spaces -especially while multi-tasking applications or projects. This makes life on your monitor very easy and fast to move though various open windows.

Screen Capture:
simultaneously press Cmd-Shift-3 to capture the entire screen
or Cmd-Shift-4 to select a specific portion of the screen

I'm disappointed. Based on the title of the thread, I was already scanning Phoenix Craigslist for an angry ex-wife selling her husband's guitars cheap.

also... in any native application, you can move the cursor over any word and press Ctrl-Cmd-D and the dictionary entry for that word will pop-up.

I also find "Pages" and "Keynote" more elegant and better designed than "Word" or "PowerPoint".

Unfortunately "Migration Assistant" in Mac only works between machines running OS and it migrates all information and settings/preferences from another machine to the new...

You can however use This method .

You're "casting pearls before swine" with me, and perhaps many of The Membership. I am content to plod & stumble along The Great Information Highway, in a guzzling, unreliable, & cantankerous vehicle, BUT....I also have a techno-geek "mechanic" who can keep me running, and steered in the right direction.
Tutorials, like Waskel's photo-posting item, is real helpful, too.
I would like to thank, however, all the esteemed members who provide our OFC "added-value" products, goods, & services. Very much appreciated!!

Dave, welcome to the fold. Once you go Mac you can't go back.

If you find some app that you can only run under windows, grab a copy of VMware Fusion and run it in a virtual machine. It's not at all complicated.

And as I said on the Other Side, SafariBlock is your friend.

macrumors.com has pretty good forums for macs.. the user community over there apparently doesn't understand the concept of searching a forum before posting a question, though, so there's lots of duplicate q's and a's.

not searching before asking the question.

Man I'm glad that never happens here.

By the way, what are the best strings to use on my guitar?

Well if have to get rid of your throwing her out a second floor window is a good start. But there must be some high rise there, which provide a much better splat to wife ratio.

The most damage in AZ occurs when the item goes from the AC environment to the AZ environment.
