This is actually my second one of these; I had one. Loved it. Sold it. Regretted it. Replaced it. And intended to keep it. However, I’ve tripped across a lovely custom Ovation for sale, and this is the only way I can pay for it (not to mention keep the peace with SWMBO). There’s not a thing wrong with this instrument. It looks brand spanking new! It is absolutely stunning in appearance and sound! Beautiful, flawless Figured African Cherry for the top…mid-depth body…tasteful, understated ebony fret-board with mother-of-pearl inlay on the 12th fret…Gold Ovation tuners…the nut is 1 11/16”…fantastic sounding Ovation Tru-Balance pickup and OP-40 Pre-amp with built-in tuner. It has a very unique sound, even among Ovations; very mellow and warm. Not a bright guitar at all. The 02C’s also have extremely fast-playing and comfortable necks. And I'm one of the few who actually appreciate that the top is a laminate. It's the instrument that I take out in the New York winters when I feel I might benefit from just a little added weather resistance. It comes with it hardshell case, also in great condition with just some scuffing on it. In fact, since this was one of my keepers (Did I just say that? I think Trader Jim’s been putting something in my Sam Adams. ), it actually has a brass engraved luggage tag I attach to the handle of all my instruments. Since I have a small wall of identical looking cases, the tags make it easy to grab the guitar I’m looking for. I'll ship it insured in the continental US for $875. Overseas? Get with me for a quote. Let me know what you think. Opinions and feedback are always appreciated. (I already know about the yellowjacket in the photos though.) ![]()

It had no image or description at all, just a very strange model number, CE768-wbx, so I asked for a pic. Even though it wasn't a very well set up photo, I opened it...then my mouth went slack...then my brain seized up...I probably had a little twitch in my left temple even. So tell me whats the custom? Please don't tell me it's a long neck SSB Adamas I with ebony fingerboard! I sent Kim Keller an inquiry. He responded, "The -X on the end of the model number means "Custom", so it's something we built for someone somewhere. So thusly, it's a Custom deep bowl Custom Elite." I've gotten more photos since and the label and certificate identify it as a custom guitar for George's Music, Guitar Gallery. I'll send an inquiry to them soon asking for the story. I do like bubinga though, and I'll get another chance at an 02C down the road I'm sure. Some of you know better than others that I can be deadly patient that way. Here's the pic, as I said, it isn't a good shot, but you get the idea. I've already put a deposit on it and have 30 days to pay it off. So somebody buy this 02C so I can show you how this CE really looks! ![]()

One of my ex's used to work in a factory that made high end custom office furniture. They once did an airport in Saudi Arabia, and the desks were made of bubinga (with 24K gold trim!), and he said they had to use metal working tools on the wood because it was so hard. He brought some scrap home and that stuff was HEAVY! I'm thinking it won't vibrate very much.

I actually liked the sound of it, quite punchy and balanced without being too bright. I'd be amazed if the custom elite had a solid top. The 99C had a veneer top. (I really need to get around to asking Kim or John what the veneers they use are applied to.) Just to be clear for those coming late to this thread: I'm selling a guitar with an African Cherry panel-master top to raise funds for a custom elite with a bubinga (likely panel-master) top. I love the sound of my 02C; it's different from any other guitar I own. I'll probably get another one some day, but this is the only way I can afford the one I've put a deposit on. This is a great guitar in pristine condition at a good price. Have at it folks! :D

Heck! Feel free to talk about my layaway plan for any of them. The plan goes like so: We plan it out together. Simple huh? ![]()

Joined: May 2006 Posts: 4236 Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I just heard form Rick Hall at the factory about the Custom guitar I showed above. I admit to being a little excited about his response: "It was a proprietary guitar specifically for George's Disney store. We only made a small number. If I had to guess, probably less than 10 pieces." Now will somebody buy the 02C so I can get the new one delivered? Huh? Please? ![]()
