Wikipedia: A callus (or callosity) is an especially toughened area of skin which has become relatively thick and hard as a response to repeated contact or pressure.

Since starting WorkshopLive, I've been playing more and longer on acoustic than before, and I have pretty decent calluses right now. Sometimes they threaten to peel right off the end of my finger. In the past, I've always just peeled them off when they are ready. I'm trying my best to keep the current crop intact by sanding (with an emery board) the edges to get rid of the part that wants to lift off.

Anybody have secrets for callus maintenance?

If they peel, they peel. If I get a little "snaggy" that becomes annoying, I bite it off.

Emery boards are for chicks.
I go back in the shop and tear off a strip of 80 grit, silicone carbide, electro-coated, emery cloth and have at it.

I use Corn Huskers Lotion a couple of times a week. It's a heavy glycerin solution. It keeps the finger tips looking smooth and your hands feel soft.

And given your current reputation at work, you might try one.

Anybody else want me to send a package to your office from Captain Lovehandles, with the CLH smiley heart logo on it?

Oops, I edited after your "don't ask" post. But you didn't say "don't tell".

Inside joke tween me and the Captain...
Please... don't ask.

Note to Miles... make edit times shorter.

An envelope came to the shop from the Captain. The return address was from "Captain Lovehandles" and featured a little heart with wings.
Now the secretarys here are asking me about my out of town gay lover.

Last summer when I met Designzilla at his home, I was the first OFCer he'd met in person. When his daughter dropped by later, Donna said "Come meet the strange man Daddy met on the internet!"

If you used decent strings you wouldn't get calluses. I play hours every day and I haven't got any.

Fillhixx, I'm laughing my butt off. I actually had a guy come in here with one of those, and he wanted lessons! He claimed to have arthritis, and that was the only way he could play. I suggested he take up piano, or harmonica, or singing. It totally amazes me how ignorant some people are about music.

As far a callouses, I just leave mine alone. If they get rough on the edges and I'm tempted to pick them, I pick something else instead.
