Up for grabs is #57 slothead adamas that originally went to Paul McCartney and wings.I have owned 3 slotheads and kept this one because it sounded the best and was in excellent original condition. Also the wideneck was a big factor,i simply love ovation widenecks..This guitars tone was very different from the other slotheads and other adamas' i have played .It has more of that Martin dred. mid punch. The condition of the guitar is excellent condition..It also will come with the original Ovation case it came with,leather-like outer case cover,a copy of "when adamas speaks" book and original owners manual. Also a copy of an Autographed picture of Paul McCarney and wings with adamas guitar and signed by everyone in the band except linda who was very sick at the time. This is a great Historical guitar although i do not have a pic of Paul ever holding or playing the guitar. It was usually one of the guitarist..The asking price is $12,500.00
e-mail or call Sam at 404 409-6242 or samova@comcast.net .Please contact only if you are serious about purchasing the guitar. Not interested in any trades at this time...Thanks,Sam

Good luck Sam and congrats to whoever will be the lucky new owner!

Very tempting but I prefer to stay married!

I'll ask Nancy if she needs a back up!

Interesting. They really gave a right-handed guitar to perhaps the most famous left-handed player in the history of recorded music? He played many RH guitars over the years but flipped the strings. Any idea if that was ever done to this one? If so, the pre-amp would have been on the bottom and the fretboard extension would have been under the bass strings.

Interesting semi-OT: At last report, Sir Paul owns one of only two original '50s LH Les Paul bursts. Anybody else remember who owns the other one?

Wideneck original slothead, yum! But well out of my price range, barring any sudden lottery wins.

I would love to see the picture of The Wings or one of the musicians with this guitar. Sam, could you by any chance publish it here for the OFC people?

I collect pictures of popular musicians playing Adamas guitars. So far I've only seen pictures of Denny Laine with a beige slothead and Laurence Juber with a non-slothead 1687-8. Laurence played this standard production model in 1979 during the shootings for the promotion videos of "Back to the egg" (on songs like "Love awake" and "Again And Again And Again"). These videos were later aired on BBC.

Interesting how they are all different.

Beautiful Sam!!

Just a very subtle blue burst and no gold fleck around the edge.

#45 is the same blue all over but with the gold fleck fanned around the edge.

Jeez, timing is everything Sam! If it was last year when I pinged you, we'd be working out delivery details. This year, I'm starting a new business and hording all available capital. :( For now, I'll just have to stay with OFC#6. Which isn't all bad.

Stone, i know with the economy as it is right now it's probably not the best time to put this guitar up for sale but i wanted to start advertising it now realizing that it may take a while to sell..I'm in no big hurry and am slightly flexible on the asking price. The bottom line is this is one great guitar with a great history behind it and i also know that the price i sell it for here in the near future will be far lower than what it will sell for in the next 10-20 years..This is Ovations pre war D-45's and we all know what those are fetching now.

Hindsight is always 20/20. but I wish I'd bought this guitar when I had the chance almost 30 years ago. It was £800 and I couldn't afford it back then. Now that I can afford the current price, I'm gonna pass, because I would never use it.

Good luck with the sale Sam.

Obviously Paul didn't drink the Koolaid like the rest of us.

You could put it in the front window and call it a write-off for advertisement - like Ovation did!

Well, great discipline there big guy.

Write off for advertisement??

What are you talking about???

dcwill--"they really gave a right handed guitar to one of the most famous leftys...."

where do you guys get all this gave stuff??

McCartney paid. That's why while you may see a picture you never saw his name in print from the company. He refused to endorse anything so we could use a pic but not his name. And since he woulodn't endorse, he paid, cash money just like everyone else.

IMHO that's a much better advertisement. If someone actually hands over their own money, THAT is an endorsement.

I'd never use it because I have guitars with vastly superior electronics to use onstage when I'm getting paid. (Seriously, have you ever tried to get LOUD and feedback-free with a deep-bowl 2-knobber?) And really for me, acoustic guitars with pickups are just a means to earn money, so the payback on that one doesn't stack up. Acoustically I have a ton of guitars that sound just fine, so I don't need another right now

As for the left-handed thing. This guitar came onto the market from the estate of the late Wings guitarist Jimmy McCulloch, who was right-handed. In the original S/N list the Guitars were allocated to "Wings" not specifically to McCartney. I can recall seeing Denny Laine, McCulloch and Lawrence Juber using various Adamas guitars, but never McCartney.

But there was a time, Paul, when we were on the trail of an original slothead out here in CA. But I think we were thinking it was less money.

McCartney played his CL's but not an Adamas. And Juber, while he played them, spoke poorly of them later.....

Side note - Talking about Lawrence Juber, he's going to be in town this weekend and, barring any unforeseen duties, I'll be sitting right up front watching the man play. I missed his first trip through a little over a year ago but friends said he was well worth the $25 cover.
