You know, I skipped right over it and never saw it.

Beautiful guitar. Looks like no wear at all, and a very reasonable price. If I didn't already have one (and I had some money), I'd be interested in this one.

Somebody should be.....

I can vouch for Chris. Nice guy that runs a very popular business out of his home in upstate NY.

He also has a nice layaway program where he can hold an instrument for you for 60 days with a small down payment.

You know, it's not just that this guitar has seen very little playing time, it's spent most of the last 20 years in it's case. Every other 87C I've seen has had a very dark top with 20 years of aging on top of the aging toner originally used. This one is no darker than mine (which has a top that's only a year and a half old).

Somebody needs to buy this guitar.....

I didn't get "green lights" from my wife for this one. Bad for me - good for you. I've played Kurt's 87 collector's for several times and it's one of the best sounding Ovations I know. Go for it Dweez!

I agree with Karl (normally do anyway) that the 87C is one of the best sounding wood topped Ovations out there.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but in my bedroom, I've got my 87C, my A braced Legend, and the OFC guitar (ding!). Toby once commented that all Ovations have that "Ovation sound" to them. To a degree, it's true, but those guitars, which I believe are the best examples of a round deep hole O, and deep multi hole, wood topped O, and a deep bowl Adamas, all sound very very different. If you were to toss in the FD14, you'd realize that simply saying that all deep bowl Ovations sound alike is very untrue....

Further to Moody's comment on color, does anyone know about the "aging toner" thing? I did a search and came up with essentially nothing. Is it really a -7? My 87c and N769 are pretty much the same color, darker than a -4.

I know it says that on the label, but it's way darker than my 1118-4, although that did have the top refinished. But it's nearly ten years older. Just wondered. Doesn't really matter.

The "shade" of natural can very tremendously. All the guitars in this photo are -4 naturals.

If you look thru this information on Jerome's site regarding the 87C, you'll see that the 87C had a nutmeg stain applied to the top to give it an aged look.
