This is a USA made Ovation from the late 80's. Story goes something like this as I remember it from MusicMishka (Mike or others, please correct any wrong info)... Towards the end of the production of Thunderbolts, Ovation grabbed the last 40 or so and sent them to an artist. Funny thing is that this artist liked living in his boat... WHILE AT SEA! So Ovation actually boated these guitars out to him, and he hand painted them. There were several designs done, some in a lizard skin, some in snake, and also a few different colors were used. This is the black one. The baddest of the bad. About 10 black ones were done, each hand signed (see pic). Solid Spruce top, bound ebony fretboard, inline tuners, and all in black. The neck is also thinner and faster than the already speedy Ovation acoustic necks. Built for electric players. Condition is very good. It had some cosmetic issues taken care of at the Ovation factory a few years back, but they're unnoticeable unless you're looking for them. Case included $780 (possible trades?) Plus shipping charges

My recollection is a bit hazy. My story was pretty good though, eh? ;) Should have added "He didn't like the wakes made from the delivery boats, so they had to seal each guitar in an air-tight case and deliver them with SCUBA divers.... Through pools of sharks... with freekin' laser beams!"

This is a great guitar...it was a mess when I bought it and has more lives that a cat... The mothership revived it twice...a vacation to Hawaii nearly killed it....Maui Wowie no doubt...lol (just kidding) Damon, call me!

I'm just curious, how was the paint applied to these? Is it on the wood top or on top of the clear coat or something else? It looks ever so slightly textured too, is that right?
