Location: Glendale, AZ | I just bought my first Ovation at Guitar Center. It is a GC-178lx-N5. Which I understand means that it was made special for the Guitar Center stores. They have these on close out, or so I was told. The sticker claimed a suggested retail price of $1100, with a usual store price of $789 and a sale price of $449. This was in the Phoenix store and they had one left.
The sales guy claimed that this was a US made one. He said that the US factory had closed and they would only be getting Korean made ones from now on. Its hard to know how truthful he was being since I don’t see anything here about the US factory closing.
But at any rate, it seems to be a very nice guitar for that price and I am very happy with it.

The US factory isn't closing. It's just gonna get its low end stuff made in Asia now. Good deals on some excellent guitars to be had if you've got some spare cash.
If the sticker in the bowl says it was made in Connecticut, USA, then it's a USA model.
My newest Ovation (bought in 2005) has "USA" stamped on the back of the headstock with the serial number. Not sure about the GC models. |

Yeah, I think he maybe was told that they would not be getting any more USA made ones in and took it that the factory was closing.
Anyway, I have always wanted to own an Ovation and the price was right. |

I'm looking for an elite 6778LX 5M contour. This guitar on ebay is the more similar i found till now.

Location: Glendale, AZ | Yep. That is the one I got. When I went in, they had 2. One was marked $449 and the other $789. When I asked the sales guy about it, he said that they were both $449, the other one had not been changed yet. So if you go to a Guitar Center and they have some of these, be sure to ask about it being marked down in another store. |

They are a reputed dealer, though. I bought my '05 from them.
From my dealings, their knowledge of Ovations is limited, considering they're an official dealer, and their aftersales communications are below par. |

Location: Glendale, AZ | Thanks every one. It looks like I did ok. I just never really trust sales people. I knew I liked the guitar, and that $449 seemed a good price for it, but I just was not sure I was getting as good a deal as he said I was.
No hard shell case thrown in though, I had to buy that extra, so they did make a few bucks on me after all.
So ProfessorBB, I ran across a site where you could register you Ovation. This would go under the Elite Section? |

Location: Warren,Pa. | This "Made in USA" thing can be confusing where Ovations are concerned.
The paper label inside the guitar will say "made in New Hartford, Conn." if it's USA-made.
All bowls are made in the USA...even the imported Ovations have "made in USA" moulded in raised letters inside the bowl; but the paper label inside the bowl won't say anything about the USA.
Then you have the Ultra which has sub-assemblies made overseas (with a made-in-the-USA bowl),with final assembly and set-up here. Now that the lower-end models are made in Korea, maybe the Ultra will never see the factory in Conn. ...that's if they even keep making them.

I'm becoming less and less obcessed with WHERE stuff is made and more concerned with HOW it is made. Sure a quality built USA made Ovation is a beautiful thing. But where are all the components made? The electronics? tuners? nut and saddle? rosette? strings? Personally I'd be more concered with where can you get it SERVICED.
It's a big world. The last few cars I leased where interesting. A german one made in germany but one of the largest components, the transmission, was made in France. Then another german one which was actually assembled in the USA. Now I've got a British car made in the UK but they are owned by and Indian company. So I don't know what to think anymore.
Just get used to the world, I guess.

Location: Utah | ddr, that's a very fine guitar you got. A killer price! One of my daughter's friends has that model and it is very nice to play. It sounds great plugged in or not. Just please change the strings more often than her friend does! |

I bought this one because my wife has taken over my old guitar. A 1980's vintage Arbor Sound Port. I got that on close out too and it has been a great guitar. I have never seen another one like it.
The Ovation makes a worthy replacement, and I still get to pick up my old Arbor now and then. |
