Joined: January 2002 Posts: 970 Location: Atlanta,Ga. | The inlays were white when i had the guitar back in 1997 maybe 98? I beleive the inlays are original and not changed.The dowels were also there back when i bought it from Bill..I think when Bill bought the guitar he had the service dept. go over the guitar.There is probably a service record on file.My best guess as to why the dowels were there is the heel may have seperated from the neck and it was glued and screwed back together that would have made it necessary to use wood dowels to cover the screw holes?Maybe Bill or Kim can remember.I remeber having 31 and 57 at the same time but liked 57 much better soundwise.31 sounded very good but a bit bright and 57 was much warmer and more balanced.Also the wide fingerboard on 57 appealed to me.
