Recently I stumbled onto a 1689 and I find myself playing playing it almost exclusively. The wide neck is more forgiving of my less than perfect playing style. I'm not interested in another 1689 as I really prefer the simplicity of straight up acoustics. Please PM or email if interested. Here are a couple of pictures of the guitar taken by Mike who was the original owner: Originally posted by MusicMishka:

Nick ... You've got me droolin' Hey Beal, what would it take to get you to part with #220?

I have not parted with that guitar since I sound checked it when it was new to see if it was good enugh to ship. It was too good so I kept it. I had a wide neck put on my 1984 C-Series, they can do it.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the factory says.

Al's probably wondering what the hell I'm doing after he went to all that trouble. I'm just looking at all my options before I pull the trigger. The 1689 is heavy compared to the 47RI, but I really like the sound and feel. Plus, in my opinion a 32 year old guitar in good shape has a coolness factor that a shiny new guitar with warranty doesn't. Having said that, I'll take the shiny new guitar if an old one isn't available. ;)Why not contact Al and get one custom made. Then it's your color, your specs, and ultimately YOUR GUITAR! The 47 RI doesn't because it has the strip of graphite running the length of the neck. Personally, I'd go with the custom order with the #47 style neck (slothead, walnut f/b, graphite strip). So very much cooler than a straight Adamas I.....

My 1187 sounds bright and lovely, and I like the neck. I like the widenecks (and have a couple) very much also, but I wouldn't have the heart to do that to that particular guitar. The neck on my 1187 is comfortable for me, but my hands are not very big, I guess. These guys know what they are talking about; I would absolutely take their advice ... have a custom made. Keep us posted! ;) Willa

I played the guitar yesterday evening and "bright and lovely" describes it well. Everyone that's seen it remarks about how beautiful it is and those that are guitar players also comment about how light it is. I'm not sure if it's due to the size of my hands or the lack of dexterity, but my playing is better on the wide neck...sigh. Nick, isn't that the last one that was made of the 1187 RI's? I think it would be most practical to sell the 47RI and order a custom guitar for the same reasons that Stephen and Moody mention. It would be a post-Fender guitar but as I understand it, the same folks are building them.

Too bad you couldn't have been at my house for the NAMM party. Prof BB brought his custom Adamas SSB and you could have seen just how good the people in CT are. Order the custom guitar. You'll get exactly what you want and be thrilled to death with it. Now, what color are you thinking about and what neck? This one, 1187-7 just knocks my socks off. Beautiful.....
