For sale is the Ovation Fan Club ‘OFC’ guitar ( slothead Adamas, #7 of 12) for $5,400. Buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance.

I got mine June 18, 2007. The only reason I would let this one go is that I was able to obtain #50 of the original pre-production slotheads and I have #003 of the 47RI. You can go back to the 2007 archives and see the frustration of members who were not able to obtain one of these fine instruments. I addition, I believe that it took over three years of effort by Al to have these limited custom instruments approved and built. You should search for OFC slothead in the OFC archives (2007) to see the excitement and pride in the OFC that this offering created. You can even see how we distressed who would get what serial number. I ‘bought’ #007 with a couple of packs of #7 Titleist Pro V1 golf balls.

It is in as-new condition. It does not include the graphite case but will be in an as-new 9158-0 case as I now use the graphite case for #50. Although several were available as ‘wide’ necks, this is the standard neck as on my #50 and the 47RI.

I am lucky enough to own #2, and it is perfectly balanced. Big booming bass, bright and clear trebles. We spend most mornings together, and it is one of my most cherished guitars.

Good luck with the sale Tony, and good luck to all of you who want it. Christmas is coming - drop a few hints. Explain to whoever is in charge at your house that this guitar will continue to go up in value, so it's a great investment, and one that sounds so G-O-O-O-O-D!

I've been away from the OFC for a bit and while it sure feels good being back, posts like this make me wonder if I have any business being here.

"*Dlx Balladeer, shiny bowl."
Oooooo, shiney :)

Good luck with the sale Tony!

Miles,

The Typhone is the one I got from you, Thunderhead was Witko's (the one in his picture from ? 1974).

These are very special guitars and I suspect that #11 will always remain special to me, in part because it was probably the nicest birthday/anniversary etc. present I ever received.
I didn't believe at first that there could ever be a better sounding guitar, but I've come to agree that the #47RIs hold a slight edge without the preamp taking up a bit of room. But SWMBO likes blue and I like red, so everything worked out fine.

Tony's list reminds me that every once in awhile, we have an opportunity to peek inside Clive Cussler's garage here in Denver.

Tony's guitars are always in pristine shape and sound fantastic.

Whoever gets one or some of these won't regret it.

Of the original 12 OFC slotheads, my recollection is that maybe only one has changed hands, which would then make this the second offered for resale. Anybody have more updated information? Based on Dave's Ovation registration public website, nine of the original 12 owners are:

1 Alpep
2 Not listed
3 Moody
4 Not listed
5 Prof BB
6 Stonebobbo
7 Tony Calman
8 Standing Ovation
9 Aloha Tim (now Tidewater)
10 Charlie Ramon

I thought Miles had one; Moody was listing one a while back then pulled it off market.

Alison posted that she had #2 in this thread.

I had #2 originally, but it has moved on. It was/is a fantastic guitar, but it wasn't "me". I now have the OFC-2 which is "me." It is my understanding that the person who got #2 still plays it almost every day.

As far as I'm concerned these two guitars represent the best of the best from Ovation. Anytime I hear an Acoustic guitar and think how great it sounds, I some home and just strum my OFC-2 and it become evident how superior it is to anything else I have ever heard.

For those wondering how much better is it than other high-end Ovations, I'm probably gonna catch some flack for this, but I believe both the OFC1 and OFC2, along with the original slot-heads, are in a category by themselves, above anything else in sound superiority. Your mileage may vary, but that's my opinion. There are certainly other individual guitars that shine, and certainly a few models that excel in their own right for a particular feature. But this small group of models excels in every way.

As example, I remember when I bought my Redwood top and couldn't decide between center hole which sounded better to me, or epaulet which sounded better to the person listening. The group of guitars mentioned above sound good at every angle. These guitars are great if you are standing up, or seated. Easy to play at the 12th fret and the 3rd fret. Sound great just acoustically or plugged in. Perfect for finger picking, percussive, or just strumming cowboy chords.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. As stated, your mileage may vary.

No question about it. I own both. The original slotheads are another level beyond them, but that's a whole 'nother story.

The 1s and 2s are totally different, but yet they are both stellar. To me, as good as anything any other maker puts out. Bar none. My OFC2 gets played out a lot and it is always the best sounding guitar in the joint. The OFC1 is amazingly dynamic ... you can drive it hard or play it delicately, and it stayed solid and composed from the first fret to the twelfth with no loss to tone or volume.

I've been fortunate enough to play and/or own what are clearly the best and most loved models over the entire history of Ovation. And there are a number of them. But the OFC guitars are in a whole different league. If I could get an OFC3 that was a re-make of a Q, I would be way beyond happy.

I'm surprised this is even on the market. Not a single one of the original 12 have been sold on the market ... the only one to change hands is the one Miles described.

Tony-Good job obtaining #50 of the original pre-production slotheads :) Good luck with your sale.

bobbo-interesting to know about both OFC's guitars. Have not seen yet a picture of an OFC II, perhaps one of these days I get to see one:)

Hector, thanks...as it either spent time as personal property of a music store owner and then in a case, it is as-new.

Amazing how it can spoil you. I have three 1687's and a couple of 1687 reissues that I thought were as great as can be...then the 47RI and the OFC, then #50. Now it is #50 that gets the play. However, I doubt if it will ever go out of the house. 47RI is the one that would travel even though it is acoustic.

My Martins (D25K2, HD28VS 'vintage slothead', and the Custom D12-45 12str) would just gather dust if it wasn't for an AX Jacket.

Even my 45th Anniv, EF75 (Brazilian), and New Yorker Takamines do not get the play that #50 gets. Why bother with inferior, I need the best to 'cover' my playing. I find that if I bring a great guitar to a get-together, no one cares about my playing as they are playing my guitar. That was true a number of times.

As to the OFC and OFC2, comments are right - two different guitars but in both cases, great guitars commissioned by Al, our custom order expert!

Goober has #4/12, I recall #12/12 went to a private party non-OFC member in Phoenix.

Interesting that neither of the series have been "sold" to date but traded in house :)

After reading this thread, I pulled down the II last evening and played about two hours in front of the Christmas tree, by myself (SWMBO had a gig) unplugged. Darned nice guitar. Playing primarily SSBs, the bottom end is very noticeable. Its so nice to have choices. Thanks, Tim. As I recollect, when No. 5 changed hands last year, there were something like four parties in three states and two countries involved in the transaction.

Michael, notice that the list doesn't include the Viper, Viper 12-str, and Deacon 12-str that I got from you...
