I prefer him sitting alone, without the band, with an acoustic or a piano. I think the recent release of Live at Massey Hall was a very good example. He did both on that, and no band.

As Johnny (Strummin12) likes to say, "Neil sings in the key of Z". I still love a lot of his stuff.

Say what y'may about Neil, but I've heard MUCH worse writer/singer/guitarists that get treated like gods . . .

I've been a huge fan of his for 30 years, and I will say one thing for him, he is one of the most fearless artists that I've ever heard. He does what he wants to do and doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks about it. Personally, I think that he's put out a lot od sub-par material as a result, but he's put a lot of great stuff too.

I've tried to like/appreciate Neil Young. I've bought his cd's, listened to him, and invariably, given them away. He always sounds like a whiney old man to me.

In all fairness, I've listened to recordings of myself, and I sound worse......

Hey, there's nothing like a Neil Young one-note solo. I wanna live with a Cinnamon Girl!

I have always been a huge Neil Young fan and I think his songwriting and song composition skills are excellent. I have never cared for his voice but it is unique and I much prefer it to Bob Dylan's whinny voice.

I also preferred the early stuff before he got all political and shit.

That's the one that made me finally try something in dropped D tuning. I enjoyed that whole album.

I never liked him, but that doesn't mean he's not talented or thought highly of by others. Just not by me.

What Moody said. Actually, both things Moody said.

That said Neal Young is a huge, unique talent and yeah, he's got cojones. His heart/head are in the right place, too. He started the Bridge school for a daugther with special needs and does yearly acoustic concerts at Shoreline Amphitheater (SF Bay Area) and always manages to get big headliner musicians to come. All money raised goes to the school.

Plus he's a car guy, again with a unique twist. He's got a diesel hybrid 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible that's supposedly going to get 100 mpg when it's done.

F-yeah! Neil's another one of my pathfinders, like the Ramones, who can resist ...
...
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why.
Then I saw black,
And my face splashed in the sky.
