Okay...I know you guys will get a huge guffaw out of this, but I have to ask.

Ever since I received my W597, I break out where my right arm crosses over the top of the guitar. About on the inside of the elbow and slightly down my forearm. At first I thought a spider had gotten to me there, but they go away when I don't play for a couple of days, and come back when I do. I normally am in short sleeves.

Has anyone had irritations from the Carbon Fiber? I mean it's sealed, so shouldn't be a problem, but if I work with fiberglass insulation I get the same kind of rash.

Okay....let the jokes begin.....

This is serious....very serious.
And rare. But I have experience with this.
It is very important that you send that guitar to me right away for quarentine and testing.
Hurry....you don't know the danger you are in.

Carbon fiber is fairly inert, by itself, but you possibly could be having an allergic reaction to the resins that bind it together. Just a thought. :)

Fiberglass insulation breaks me out too. :D

Maybe just a rash from rubbing your arm across the rougher than wood surface.

Do you usually rest your arm on the body of the guitar? Maybe try it with long sleeves.

I would think that if it was an allergic reaction, it could still affect you through the long sleeves.

Highly unlikely. More probable:it's just a new guitar and you have to get used to it. It's happened to me before. Try using long sleeves till you get accustomed to it.

I think the resin theory seems to make sense. Carbon fiber should not cause a reaction, as pointed out, due to the inert mature of the material.

Hope you can get this sorted out.

About a year ago, I purchased an Adamas W597 from a Guitar Center, and was very pleased with the sound, the playability and the visual effect of the guitar.

Generally, I play seated with my head inclined towards the guitar top, and within a short time I noticed a strong chemical odor emanating from the soundholes. Although I tried to convince myself that the odor would eventually dissipate, it became so overpowering that the guitar became impossible to tolerate.

Thus, I returned the guitar for a refund, and when I explained the reason, several of the Guitar Center personnel examined the guitar and acknowledged the odor. They all said that they were familiar with that model, but had never experienced that problem previously. (Whether they were honest in their evaluation, I have no way to know).

Based upon this experience, I would be inclined to believe that there could be a special chemical (or process) used in the manufacture of the woven-top that could cause allergic reactions in certain persons.

It would be interesting to know if others have experienced similar problems with this model.

we have had discussions on the aroma of Ovations (binary resin) but this is the first alergic reaction I have heard of. If it is new it may take a while to fully "cure".

I would wipe it with water and distilled vinegar, hang it on a wall hanger to air and see if the problem persists. If you are one of those that lays much of the upper forearm on the top bout you will be subject to a heat rash and lap slipout!

I rarely play sitting down, usually with the strap and standing. I don't think my forearm touches the top as I am very concious of anything that would deaden the sound (although I do sometimes allow my pinky to anchor when picking.

I will try long-sleeves and see if that cures the problem. We just bought a hottub, so it is possible the bromine is doing this to me as my skin sensitivity seems to center on chlorine and such.

I use BaquaSpa in mine. No chlorine, no bromine, no odor, no skin irritation.

Quit playing your Adamas in your hot tub, especially plugged in. More dangerous than a rash.

Why do you think you have to keep adding chlorine to pools and tubs? Chlorine dissipates pretty rapidly. High temperatures, airation and filtering all make it happen even faster.

Actually, I don't use Chlorine, but Bromine. I used to use Bacquacil in my Pool and Spa due to my aversion to Chlorine. Worked well (but expensive).

I now, however use the new "index" (forgot the name) where you run your PH at 7.8 to 8.1 and with the Ozonator, use little to no chemicals. So far 3 months and the water is crystal clear. I keep some Bromine tabs in it set to the absolute lowest setting.

So...probably not that either. Probably just my normal winter dry skin and I need to use more lotion. Oh bother......

It does get pretty dry over there this time of year.
Not like here, where I'm soaked before I even get in the tub...
