Well, I finally got back to the east coast and settled in, although I am still on west coast time.

Had a great time at Namm, met some new faces and seem some familiar.

At the ovation booth there were no surprises. You read right here in advance what to expect.

I especially like the new cat's eye adamas and think it will be very successful.

The 06 koa collectors is a great sounding instrument.

Thanks to moody and Jerri (gerri?) for having me at their home on thursday night.

The Ovation party on Saturday night was great even with the horrible Namm show sound LOL. Al DeMiola just blew the doors off the place.

Just got a chance to watch the dvd. It should be a good sales tool for the company. If you are looking for historical perspectives etc you will not find them there.

Pics to follow after I figure out how to unload them from my new camera.

btw I cut loose the pinned threads on the new guitars since all the info is out and almost all that needed to be said has been said on them.

Hadda GREAT time!!

Many THANX to Masters Witko&Moody (and their respective families) for their more than warm & generous hospitalities.
Dave picked me up at the airport, plied me with margaritas and beers while we sampled through his quite impressive collection.
An impromptu recording session followed the next morning which solidified my beliefs that one should NEVER sing that early in the morning . . .
The soundtrack to the six-hour trans-desert drive was provided by one of the most bizzare musical collections to ever grace an iPod and a lot of jokes, stories, and laughter. Thanks again Dave, it was a LOTTA fun!

The party at CasaMoody was spectacular!
Lots of great food, drinks, guitars, music, and most of all, people.
It was great to see a lot of these people once more, and also great to meet some face-to-face for the first time.
BruDev; in all honesty, I didn’t realize that was you until the next day. I know Paul introduced us, but I really didn’t put it together since he used your full name. I thought that you were another one of his guitar-playing neighbors. Had he introduced you as “BruDev”, the dim lamp of my feeble mind would’ve caught on. Sorry about that. We’ll have to catch up the next time.
Got to meet Noah and his mandocello. GREAT instrument! It was good to spend time with you both.
I was so excited to FINALLY meet Russ(musicamex)Swider that my hair caught aflame (but that’s another story . . . .)
Russ; THANKS for the homegrown Mexican coffee beans! Luckily, they got through airport security without setting anything off. Haven’t tried ‘em yet as I’m saving them to cap off an evening of fine Mexican faire. Thanks.
Also got to hang out with MountainBikerFred and ToniCalman and the great guitars that they brought along. It was great meeting you guys.

Moody, his wife Jerrie, and their wonderful kids made me feel like one of the family.
On Sunday, Paul took me for an RX7 ride through Laguna Beach (where I put my feet in the Pacific for the first time), Newport Beach, and Balboa Island.
After a dinner out that night, Paul & Jerrie shared with me a special favorite place of theirs with a spectacular ocean view for martinis. Thanks Guys, I had a wonderful time!!

With exception of the graduate of the Helen Keller School of Audio Engineering who served as the SoundMan, the Ovation40th Party was a blast!
Food&Drink abounded, and there was a lot of great people there. I had a very nice conversation with Larry Coryell, who was a very warm, gracious, and friendly person. Also got to shake hands with one of my favorite bassists (and “fashion” inspiration) Leland Sklar. Another gracious gentleman.

Large, hi-visibilty trade shows generally give awards for things like “Most Innovative Booth” and the like.
While I don’t believe the category exists, an award DEFINITELY should be given to Woodie’s G-Band for “Most Badged Staff for a 10x10 Booth”.
Thanks, Mates!!!

. . . . and THANKS to Uncah Beal for those DrinkTickets that you didn’t use . . . . :-)

I’ll post a bunch of the piccies that I took when I get a chance.

Thanks Again to ALL there! . . . . . I hadda BLAST!!!

One thing I don't remember anybody mentioning, and I think it's good, is that Ovation put on all their USA built guitars, stickers, at the 11th or 14th fret, that state they are USA built guitars. Rick Hall said they had just gotten them in. I'm hoping they'll go on all the USA built Ovations shipped out.

I wonder how many people will think they are fretboard inlays and never remove them (like the plastic on pickguards). Dave

I thought the thin plastic was supposed to keep the pick guard from getting all marked up.

That was just my 95% acoustic answer.

Actually, my efforts have turned toward "A" scale guitar parts. Not quite Ukes but promising.

Good to see the MAde in USA differentiation.

Yes...that "Made In The USA" sticker is a good idea. But my lack of faith in the consumer suggests to me that a "Made In Korea" sticker is also needed.

Woody;
At NAMM, I finally got to play one of those Tacoma 12-string Papoose's. Neat little unit!
It WOULD be cool if Ovation could do one . . .

I also played (for the first time) an Ovation mandocello (Noah's) at Moody's house. I REALLY liked THAT! Witko and I were playing a Middle-Easten version of "Kashmir" (Witko on uke, me on mandocello) late at night. Moody made us stop because he was afraid his neighbors would report him for operating an Al-Qaida "cell" out of the house.

I also got to play a couple of fretless basses that were pretty cool. Think I need t'get me one o'these. The Godin ones were really cool.
Also played one of those Godin 11-string fretless nylon guitars. That thing is just "sick". I wouldn't mind having one, but it's really something for playing "leads" on. Can't play chords for shit on it. Still, it DID produce some really interesting sounds . . . .

sorry for such a late reply to this topic and for being so scarce on the ofc board lately. i seem to be busier than i should be for what i get done and find myself escaping to the mountains where we have a house on a river without power or phone, every chance i get. a few of my acoustic ovations are now permanent residents there. a perfect place for one with a AAA solar panel top.

my second namm was great, and the party at paul's kicked it off to a perfect start. i finally met bill and lorraine and cliff and his flaming hair. that was an intro hard to top. thanks again paul and jerri for the party, food for getting all of us together.

the ofc 40th was intense with a highlight of seeing al dimeola and his band up close. there is an amazing chemistry that is rare in bands i have seen live. the greencards at the acoustic cafe were also good enough to make me buy a cd, which is tight contemporary bluegrass.

i made several contacts for my synthesizer guitar project and received my first order of strings i have been helping develop and test over the last year. it looks like it's going to get busier this year. we are off to kim chee land for the month of may. i havent got a clue what to expect, as i'm not all that good at bowing or kareoke.

i'll try to bring more organic home roasted coffee to namm next year. i must seem like i'm smuggling something to customs since i reek of coffee.

later amigos, russ
