A long time ago I used to build boats, and no matter how much jing was waved in the company's face we just wouldn't do a boat in certain colors blue or red for example - we wanted to be taken seriously. Similarly, Ovations have a hard time being taken seriously by some folks. Coloring a guitar that hideous color (or "Sea Foam Blue") just makes it harder to sell that Ovations aren't plastic toys. Ovations should make you *gasp* when you lay your eyes on one - but not from pain! Bad taste in a product line resonates and rubs off.

But the constant onslaught on plastic dayglow shit gracing the walls of GC has beat me into submission. Check THIS one out ... Bubblegum Pink Ovation The Ovation name is so permanently attached to the notion of plastic backed guitars in the minds of the general public that you'll just never change it. Yes, there are hundreds of testamonials about the guy who takes his adamas to his martin friends house and the friend actually admits he likes the sound. And all the people in church that say they never heard such beautiful tones after you have worshipped on your ovations, blah, blah, blah. It doesn't fugging matter. I really don't think painting them pink or blue or orange will do anything (more) negative to the brand name and maybe it actually helps sell a few more units. As long as there is a plastic bowl attached to it, the general public (minus the 4000 of us) will never get it. Dave

She actually wanted a green one, but my conservative tastes prevailed (besides I couldn't find a green one cheap). Anyway all her college buddies have been telling her that it's the most beautiful sounding and looking guitar they have ever seen. Ovation can wow even the college kids in a lot of ways. It won't hurt to sell a few fad guitars along the way.

I recently saw both a solid "Mary Kay Pink" finish and a solid Baby Blue finish on entry level Fender Squier acoustics... made me want to enter a cookie tossing contest. :( Part of me wants Ovation to take the high road and only put out "classic" finishes in order to gain respect. But, that battle is probably never going to be won with all the "plastic guitar" BS... Face it, the future is not us older guys, so if Ovation wants to gain market share they've got to cater (at least some) to the younger crowd. I guess ultimately Dave is right. If it puts $$$ in the R&D tank, that's a good thing. As he says, GC is loaded with all sorts of "plastic dayglo shit". It's what kids want. (Besides, I'll trust Ovation not to give up completely on pleasing the rest of us... :) )

Oh wow ... apparently, every guitar manufacturer wants a piece of the growing preteen market. While, I have no intention of owning one, it does look cute, and if it sells, then why not? The one I saw was pink, and it looked just like this: http://www.bananas.com/multimedia/9171/MediumImage/9171_md.jpg

I knew older players that thought those were hideous. Or the Fender Wild Woods. Now those are some of the most collectable guitars on the market. If it takes non-traditional colors to build a young customer base, then have at it. As the kids get older, they will look at whatever's next and say: "Boy that looks awful!" It what makes the world go around. Cc

The red flame T is awesome if I had the money I would own one. I would look stupid but I only care what God thinks not anyone else. My wife like purple maybe hmmm what evil lurks in the hearts of men the shadow knows. Pauly :D

A discussion about the ethnicity of those deciding the colors could take place now but that might not even be the answer. Maybe the person choosing the color lost the bet?

As my friend in Texas says: "Whatever gets you home". I sold high end custom instruments for too many years and learned a long time ago that everybody has a different idea about what's cool regarding color, so hoorah for Ovation making things like that purple celebrity. No one has brought forth the idea, by the way, that Minneapolis where the auction item is located, has been friendly to purple for a long time now.............

Personally I dont care for the wild colors, or even the plain finishes (i.e. black) . . . I like guitars that look like wood, so the natural, the koa, maybe some of the bursts . . . but Ovations look unusual regardless of the finish, so if they can capitalize on that, and sell more guitars, why not? I am sure a vast chunk of the under-$1000 guitar market is teens who think it would be cool to play one . . . and when they get bored with it we buy it for cheap on eBay or Craigslist.

WHY, on the pink/blue/green etc guitars, are they still the same wood finishes? It looks OFF to me, to have a primary color and then natural wood parts stuck on it. Like they just glued them on as an afterthought without even looking at it. Cant we get some that match the finish, or just remove them, or something!
