So there I was, overnighting in Smallville Idaho, with nothing better to do with my time than walk down to the local guitar shop. They had a pretty good selection of guitars on the wall, with names like Martin, Dean, Takamine, and so on. Really not a bad selection for a smallish town.

So, of course, I pulled down the most expensive guitar and started playing it. The lady who runs the store kept looking at me suspiciously, but I had pulled my shirt tails out to protect the guitar back. And my playing wasn't so bad as to make her think I'm a beginner.

After 15 minutes of playing different guitars I just couldn't get over the fact that they were all just wooden boxes. Not an O in the whole place.

That's when it struck me. I'm a guitar snob.

Don't you love it when that happens?

Bet she didn't have any Nationals either?

What town in Idaho? Smallville could apply to all of them. Even in the "big city" I can't find an Adamas or a contour bowl. The ad I saw for a National was a "National style". I assume that means a copy.
Between tdeej and me, the Ovations in Idaho have increased by a large percentage recently, however.

Mine called it a fetish. I told her there was nothing sexual involved, but I'm working on it.

In this particular case it was Twin Falls. Except for the wind that nearly always blows in the Snake River Valley, it is a pretty nice area. Twin Falls is one of my more preferred overnights. But I'm going to have to scope out the other music stores to find someone who carries Ovation.

Growing up in southern Idaho, Twin Falls was thought of as a 'large' town. Many friends used to travel just south of Twin to Jackpot, NV to gamble. Too bad Ovation dealers are few and far between in Idaho now. The little Moscow dealer dropped Ovation. A friend purchased the last of his stock, a limited edition celebrity.

I thought Twin had an Ovation dealer downtown, the Ovation site says the Music Center on Main Street. I'll check next time. Another couple hours and you can check out GC's weak selection in Boise. I'll soon have more Ovations in stock than the GC. We have 2 other supposed Ovation dealers. I haven't been to one in a year and when I called the other recently to ask if they had any Adamas, they didn't know what I was talking about.

I'll have to check out the downtown music store next time I'm there. We stay out near the bridge, so I've only been to the one store out that way. There are at least two other music stores in town, including the one downtown.

Wow a 12 fret program for guitaraholics. Does that make the OFC tour a 48 hour rehab?

At least those who attend can shamelessly wallow in their addiction (fetish, for Mark) of choice.

You guys practically held me down and made me re-post this....

My name is "Fred" and I'm and Ovation-Adamas-aholic. It's been 3 months since my last GAS Attack, but I admit it. I've borrowed a guitar since then. I cannot hide my disease, I have the right hand only finger nails, and the "working man's calouses" on my left fingers to remind me how weak I am. I think I'm getting "bar-chord calouses" too.

12 Steps of O&A/A

1. We admitted we were powerless over
GAS—that our lives had become unmanageable (without another guitar).
2. Came to believe that a collection of guitars greater than our own could restore us to sanity. (yeah, Right!)
3. Made a decision to turn our will and credit card numbers over to the care of AL as if we understood him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our guitars, and how much fun they are to play
5. Admitted to CWK2, to ourselves and to another OFC Member the exact nature of our GAS.
6. Were entirely ready to have AL put us down for a OFC/#47 when they're available.
7. Humbly asked Him to hold our checks until after payday, and not to tell out wives.
8. Made a list of all persons we had given GAS to with our guitars, and became willing to help advise them on their next guitar aquisition
9. Made direct efforts to help such people (with the OFC, AL, Ebay links, etc)wherever possible, except when to do so would jepordize an amazing deal on a guitar we've been waiting years to get our hands on.
10. Continued to take a personal guitar inventory and when we had GAS promptly sought/traded to fulfill it.
11. Sought through the OFC, Al, and Ebay to improve our collection (even if that means trading and selling off a few guitars to make room for something new), hoping only for knowledge of a great deal when we see it and the assets to aquire it without hassle.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this
message to WOOD BOX guitar players, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Amen.

If the OFC tour is a 48 hour rehab, can't we write it off on our taxes as medical expenses?
