Quite a tasty piece of work. Very diverse. Not the "Rock Dinosaur capitalizing(once more) on TheSound" as you might expect. Quite different. Crosby/Nash singing harmony on the title track. (Wot's not t'like??)

He was also quoted for not being afraid to play "slow." I just might end up buying his CD this weekend.

Have played Shine ON for years on the acoustic and we are thinking of trying it with two guitars but I'd love to see what Dave did with it. You guy's want something different. Out of print and obscure but really good??? You got to trust me on this one.... I'll give you an email address and if you want to take a chance on my tastes in music you have to get the first Album copy to CD from a few friends of mine from years back who have a band called "805". They have a DVD they made when they got back together and did a reunion gig at the Turning Stone Casino. It will knock you on your Ass! For a band that was right at the verge of making it big but never did these guy's can still put on a show like they used to! The DVD is worth twice the price. Dave Porter who is the front man "extrordinair" and who I have not spoken to in 20 years gave me permission to do a song he converted to a classical sort of solo ending. I fell in love with it and it is now my evening ender. Dave's a great guy. Best musician I ever met. I know we don't have $20 bucks to throw away so I would not waste your money. You have got to see this concert! They have some great originals that are still fantastic progressive music. Do you like Old Genesis! I mean the good stuff... these guy's have a genesis medley that is just unbelevable! You want to be inspired by what local boy's can do this is it. Professionals since the early 70's. Here's the web site and the email is at the bottom. The first CD "Stand in Line" is great and the DVD is the real value! Just for giggles checkout the history page it will explain what happend to these guy's. http://www.805online.com/schedule.html enjoy Randy

A huge inspiration to an aspiring musician... central ny was home to some killer bar bands... talas, atlas, the works... and the predecessor to 805, harpy... they were amasing... spot on versions of i am warlrus to spanish castle magic to dance on a volcano in one set... brought back some great memories...

I remember him staging a fight at Mc Matts one night with his lead guitarist They had a whole act that would start on stage during a song......Can't remember what musician that was at the time??? But the bouncers jumped in on it when it spilled out on the floor and the roadies all jumped the bouncers trying to break it up! Funny stuff! Entertaining. Dave is doing a Duo thing as well. He is real creative I'll bet he has something wild. He still has the rights to Walrus... Only guy in the world other than Michael Jackson and PAul that I know of who has the rights to record and play a Beatles tune. I think they do it on the DVD?? Anyway it is a great musical show . You have to watch it all! THese guy's get progressivly better and better as the evening progreses. Allens I'll bet we bumped into each other more than once Matt. Yeah Harpy "Crazy Jane"? Wow time goes by Randy

Held nothing back. I still see Dave once in a while and wonder just how a band with that much going for them and that much momentum just didn't make it. Everybody was pulling for them to break out. Matt - Atlas is still at it and with some of the same faces too! Another incredible band. There's still a real good bunch of bands here in CNY and the scope has really widened a bit. Jazz, country, rock - we've got it all covered for a small town. One guy I know, John Cadley, fronts a bluegrass band called the Lost Boys and, though bluegrass isn't really my thing, they are a very tight group and John is a great writer. Spent a couple of years in Nashville but ended up back here. Just found out this week that a tune he wrote and submitted to a contact of his, Lou Reid, actually hit number one on the bluegrass charts - 'course John told me the other night that, keeping that in perspective, in order to hit number one on the bluegrass charts, you have to sell around 9 copies. :D

Los Blancos is always fun too. You remember any of the Gary Freney/Artie Lenin groups from the past like the Flashcubes? Those two have been around for years and have been churning out great music in all styles. Overall, I think we've always been a bit underrated as a music town but so be it - it seems to keep the ticket prices down...

Blotto, Fear of strangers and my band back in the day, Interstate... brings back memories for sure... I gotta get out to syracuse one of these days!

Remember John Hall (Orleans)?? Interesting. Could potentially be the first professional "Rock Star" in Washington . . . (Sorry . . . Sonny Bono doesn't count!)

Joined: October 2005 Posts: 5331 Location: Cicero, NY | I saw Blotto in an outdoor weekend concert years ago up in Clayton. They were with a handful of the big local bands - Dakota and Todd Hobin were the headliners. I was working stage security, which basically meant that I knew one of the guys who promnoted the show and I had to draw the line on drinking to just before falling down. Great concert. Would love to have you stop by, Matt! Cliff, I always wondered what happened to John Hall too. I always thought Orleans put out some good stuff. Just not quite enough of it. Cruster, Schenectedy? Thank God for Beechnut. I drove through there a couple of weeks ago and that's one lonely looking town. I love Upstate but, no question, we've got more problems than jobs (thanks in large part to NYC). Better not get me goin' on that...

Joined: February 2004 Posts: 2487 | Hate to diss Gilmour at all here but this is where this thread kind of went...Who did that anyway????? Dave is a Monster Guitarist. Floyd is still My Holy Grail for Music. We just got done planning on cranking out "Coming Back To Life". for our Big duo finish song! Sounds OK now. I got the Vocals Nailed. Luckily Floyd suits me. And the Bass is fun and easy which is a plus and all I need is a midi pedal set to activate the keys for the synth sounds to fill this one out. Aaron will hit the drum Machine He is working on programming it now. And we are considering a second set of pedals and keys so he can pedal throught the rhythm chords. Unless we find a keyboard genius who can help us program a second patch of pedals that will play both parts for me simultantiously on mine???? We are resisting doing the Band thing real hard. We work well together and well frankly "The more the Complicated" He's got the lead to that song in his pocket and we both agree he will let loose and do a Glimore on 9 instead of Gilmour on 6 for some of it. Great Dance tune too! People will be completely caught off guard with this one as a finsih. Then we will flip a coin and see who does their Solo's. Man Pink Floyd is still the Big Band on the block.... it does get the most attention when it is done well. As for the rest of my off track posting...... Don't take my word for the 805 heads up. There are a few of us who are still alive and well in here who have seen this phenomenon. Watching the giant TV screen show they programmed for the concert is worth the admission alone! Great, Great Concert footage. Randy

Too Bad. RadioCity's a great venue, too. . . . I might consider going to a scalper, but the ticket prices'll probably be astronomical . . .
