I figured I would tell her about buying this over the phone so when she yells it will be over the phone and maybe by the time she comes home she will cool down. So I told her last night and she didn't seem to care. Go figure that one. She just said OK. I almost fell out of my computer chair from shock. Maybe I need to send her away more often. Then again maybe she was just tired and it didn't set in. And I will get it when she sees it when she gets home. Who knows with women?

The only thing I've learned is the one absolute rule--THE GUY ALWAYS LOSES. Maybe one other helpful hint is that they haven't figured us out either, but they don't care! So why worry about what she thinks?

It's when you tell her that you need something small and relatively inexpensive (like new strings or another strap) for your new purchase. Then she'll pounce  Actually, I must admit my wife has been very agreeable about my guitar aquisitions  It's tools that I've had to back off a bit on.

Your best bet is not to play it for a month (in her presence) and then the price should go down. Take it from first hand experience. Let that sleeping dog lie for awhile when she comes back. Take care of your wife when she comes back, take her out to dinner, do the dishes so she can rest, do things that will help her forget what you did and keep that guitar on the down-low. I hope it works out.

Some wouldn't waste energy yelling over the phone when it's more efficent to wait for a 'hands on' opportunity....and to sound calm in the meantime so you're not hiding when she gets back. (That's not what my wife would do, she likes tools!) All she has to know is that men are just like linoleum. If you lay it right the first time, you can walk all over it forever.

Rule #9: Never ask your wife a question you don't already know the answer to. I thought she was going to crawl through the phone, rip my head off and...uh, well, you can figure the rest. To my surprise, she didn't. I'm sleeping with the lights on and a .25 under the pillow, though.

That's why women have perfected the art of nagging. They wear you down. You can disagree 99 times, but when you finally decide that it's useless to say anything and just ignore her, that last time overrules the other 99. Corollary #57 of the universal truth "The Guy Always Loses"

She has already marked up the confession price 25% to account for the actual bucks you paid. That way, when the argument gets to-"You never listen, I did tell you it was that much" she can just move on to the real meat of the deal. Once we have added the mark-up. There is no way out. We like it when you guys keep things on the "down-low" It just means more small purchases for us that you won't dispute and more time until we go in for the real kill. :) Oh, and we ALWAYS notice something new. We happen to know all the different shades that "natural" comes in. It's all factored in the payback. Save yourself lots of trouble, guys. Just pay the piper. Expect that everytime you get a "good deal" that she also just got something on her wish list. ;) When I see Sears dropping off that new riding lawnmower, I'll be e-mailing Al as fast as I can type, for that purdy purple-flame guitar.

How can you live with yourself? (Very well I suspect with that new CL.) I like First Alternate's color idea. My wife thinks all of my natural Ovations are the same. She said the Folklore looked just like the Matrix. I rattled off, wider neck, slothead, ebony fretboard, five-piece neck, solid spruce, pre-amp and she had already tuned out. I should have just told her it was the Matrix and then hid it in its case in the storeroom.

(Very well I suspect with that new CL.)... The switcheroo thing, just does not work. We pretend not to notice. Really. And if we happen to NOT notice until later, boy oh boy, you will be sorry. I am paying dearly for the CL...lol Yes I am. It's a good kinda pain. I SO like looking at cylinder heads and table saws. I've done a lot of cooking this week and the garage is really clean. You guys do really well at the buddy system here. Planning is everything. Big Clue #1: check the calender before you buy! Pms is danger. "That's gonna leave a mark" will be your next new guitar lick. You know those $20's that you guys always stash away? We never remember you have them unless there is an emergency. Start really hiding them in a fund. No matter how unreasonable we are, those flowers and cute stuffed animals that happen WITHOUT GAS intentions, really do matter. Grab some kleenex and watch a Chick-flick. I hope you guys are all having a great saturday. I am going, chainsaw shopping later.

I may be a rare bird, but I expect there are lots of us guys who agree with Dave Berry: "My money and her money don't become Our money when you get married. It all becomes her money." I had a friend who kept all his business expense reimbursements as his fund and his wife could never figure out why they couldn't pay off their credit cards. They're now divorced. Had another friend who kept the books and always had an extra $1000 in the checking that his wife didn't know about. He's now dead. I think I'll just keep doing it my way and stay alive and married.
