What do you guys think? Is this "finish flaw" or did someone run over this thing?:

It takes a bunch of well thought out neglect to do damage like that. Which brings to mind one of my most used sayings...
You can screw up an anvil if you try hard enough.

That didn't look right to me either--this is a pretty expensive guitar for the factory to let out with "finish flaw."

I saw that before. That's no finish flaw. Somebody did that to the guitar.

possibly someone acquainted with this guitar can now answer the question, "how much force does it take to crack an adamas top?"

TTen had one of Al's Adamas with a finish flaw in. It was much more minor than this one. I palyed it and can say it absolutey did not effect the sound or playability. If you want the textured top sound on a Celebrity budget, Jump on this one!

Edit: Never mind this one. Buy one from Al. His are in much better condition!

Al, how bad do they have to be before they're considered "un-sellable" ?

I wonder what causes finish flaws like that? By the time the guitar is to the finish stage of production I would think you could tell if it's going to have a flaw or not? especially to that degree.

Or it's kinda like baking a cake when the top caves in.
Or could it be an after affect from another process, and rather than scap em, sell for a hefty cut in price.

It is not flawless, it looks like someone walked on it.

I have a hard time swallowing that this is a finish flaw. Are the Adamas tops made like a boat in a reverse mold, so that flaws are not visible until after the part is popped? And like Texbaz says, why would the factory bother to complete a guitar having such a grotesque flaw? Having a small resin-starved spot like some of the guitars that Al has is one thing - but this one looks hideous!

It looks as though it's taken a "hit" causing the top to crack and delaminate.....

.....someone has probably stepped on the bridge.

Unless I totally misread Al's post, he stated it was a finish flaw and one that he had the opportunity to purchase but decided to pass on.

Why the debate?

Call me cynical, but just because a seller calls them finish flaws, unless I have more information to go on, I'm not going to believe it. Al, maybe you know this guy personally (I went back and looked at the auction -- if it had been you, Al, selling, then I would have believed what was written), and if so, then I'll back off my stand.

But this is a pretty silly thing to fight over.....

Hell, $450 for an Adamas 2 is a damn good price even with the flaws in the top. You can always throw a P/U in it if its a must, but for a budget guitar I'd buy the thing. :)

I saw TTen's up close and personal. the "finish flaws" look like something touched the top when resin was still soft and some of it came off the weave. Just on the surface mind you. it looked awful, but had NO affect structurally or acoustically. Although this example looks really bad, I bet it sounds as good as any other textued top. Also, looking like it does might put off any would-be guitar thieves....

yes paul especially when I have WAY more experience with these Adamas guitars than maybe anyone else outside of the factory

Who would choose to put a pink burst on a gray top? It's an ugly color choice to begin with, IMHO.

I'm curious if the factory would have a remedy for repairing/restoring the finish? That, and having electronics installed might make for a good investment.(?)
