I'm looking for some input on the U681T regarding the shape of the neck. Is it a full or soft V. By that I mean, is it similar to that of the 1537 (soft)or that of an Adamas 1681 (full)? (My two reference points)

What is the action like and playability as compared to the above? I know that the sound is been described as very full and booming. What else can you all tell me about this guitar?

I'm close to pulling the trigger and doubt I'd be disappointed, but I need to rely on your inputs 'cause I've not been able to find one to play.

(12 frets, slotted, full voice, Adamas......I need some relief....FAST!)

EDIT: Silly question, but are any of you current owners thinking about selling? Just thought I'd ask

The Ute neck is NOT similiar to the 1537. Nowhere near!
It is wider (1 3/4") and fatter. The profile might be better described as a shallow 'C' shape rather, than ANY type of 'V'.

Comparing action of the factory set-up on both the 1537 and the Ute with identical medium gauge strings...the nod goes to the Ute.

....And if you want to play with lighter gauge strings, not plugged-in...the Ute is far superior on all counts.

With the VERY limited experience I have with these guitars plugged in... all I can say is... the 1537 sounds phenomenal straight thru. The Ute takes more figuring.

Yo Blues,

My Advice: Buy First, ask questions later. There are a finite number of U681T's out there, and no one in there right mind (unless they're trying to stay out of prison for tax evation) who has one is going to sell it. The neck has a "full" profile, but it's not to thick front to back. some measurements were discussed Here . Some would call it a "C" or "D" shape, not a V-profile at all. I almost didn't get one because when I originally asked about the neck profile, I was told "same as any Adamas". It wasn't until the OFC TX get together, that I found out how truely wrong everyone was :p :D God bless Texas, I bought mine there.

The only other thing I can suggest is to get a sucker, (like Jeff W) err, I mean OFC'r to loan you one like someone did for Schoeder. Ask him if he wants to give it back...

Jus cause' he "agreed", don't mean he "Want to"...

Edit: And Leave mark out of it. He's a Lawyer, Not a Barritser, Which Means "member of a bar". How many pints does it take to get into that club??

Thanks Jeff. I realize that the UTE has a wider neck, I'm just trying to get an idea of how the neck will feel and play. Between the two I own, I prefer the the Adamas V style neck over the 1537.

It will probably be impossible to get an accurate picture of how the UTE will play w/o actually getting one in my hands. Any info is a help though.

I am trying to stay out of prison for tax evasion. Otherwise I'd have a Ute. I've never heard of a Barritser, but it sounds like fred had more than enough pints to get into the club when he wrote that. If you want to hide any Ute assets while the IRS comes after you, I know a good hiding place and I'm sworn to secrecy.

Blues, semi OT: there were a coupld of posts over the last 30 days where people were looking to possibly pick up a 1537. I mentioned your name each time but you might want to contact them yourself.

T28, more related than you may think. I have made contact with one individual, thanks. Do you still have the black one?

Hey Sailor boy,
Neck size is a matter of personal preference but, if you are inclined toward thicker/fatter, I'd be very surprised if you don't fall in love with the Ute's neck.

U681 neck is a C profile, very flat depth. It is nothing at all like 1537 or adamas V's. Dave

standingO's measurements on a previous thread suggest there isn't much in it on the neck thickness - but to my hand the ute neck is fatter than any other guitar I've played in years (bar one). It feels way thicker than my Custom Legend and about 3 times as thick as my Country Artist. I really like it - tho any long periods spent playing barre chords between 7th and 10 th frets can make my hand cramp. Lower down and single string stuff are like lightning - it's fat and fast would sum it up.

....played one for the first time last week and Dave's description is spot on.

If you really love and are used to the more tradtional V neck or have smallish hands you may not like it.

I liked the guitar but the neck profile wasn't for me.

"IF a guy had a bunch of medical bills comming in... and IF he had a Ute for sale..." How much would a mint condition U681T be going for these days? I've been thinking the '05 Collectors or the Ute may have to go, but I have seen the '05's sure are not getting much attention and I don't want to just "give" them away.

$1750. would be a very good price. I think soon you'll see these creeping over the 2k mark as the reality of how rare they are (and how nice they sound) starts to get engrained. Movement of the few that exist will slow down, much like the FD14. Dave
