Howdy folks. found this place while searching for Ovation serial numbers -- popped in to browse -- cool place, lot's of good info.

Just picked up a 1990, 1867 Lengend this week. I've been playing a beat to s%$# 1965 Guild M20 i've had since high school -- love that little thing -- but i thought, what the heck, tax return is coming, $500 i can spare, a new guitar is in order.

So i've been fingering this new toy (get your minds out of the gutter folks), sounds just great, i mean great. At first it sounded, well, plastic -- then i plugged it in -- wow!

The search function here has already answered my first question -- damn thing slips, what to do?

The second thing i found rummaging around was a complete, and pleasant surprise; Kaki King. Never heard of her before -- that woman is nothing short of revolutionary. Absolutely phenomenal.

Well that's it.

Welcome gh1

Sounds like you've got things here sussed out. Little fun, a little info, a little teasing, a fair amount of respect for great players and great instruments....Ovations and the one or two others that don't suck ;)

Oh, and many of us think we're witty.
Most are at least half right!

Paul, I think I was the last one to ask where PDX was and I think I was told Portland. I can't think of another place where the residents use the initials of their airport to identify the city.
Tell my if I'm right, gh1. Many of us haven't experience the slip off the leg phenomenon. Personally, I haven't played anything but Ovations since 1977, so it might just be what you get used to.

Ok, gh1, which part of town are you in. Chances are good I either go thru it on my way to work or on my way home.

I'll be in PDX for Easter. Unless we get rained out of golf on Saturday, I won't have any time to look you guys up. If I bring the 1537, do you want to come find me, Waskel?

NE Belmont/Hawthorne area. Work over in the NW industrial area. You hail from Portland? Cool.

What's wrong with that?

I do find it funny, and some of you guys (gh1, Waskel, Woody) can back me up on this, that the NW is generally regarded as a whole separate section of the country that really has no connection with the rest of it.

I grew up in SoCal (LAX would be close), and even there when someone mentions anything in WA, OR, & ID, people give you this funny look like "oh, yeah, there are people there - wierd."

BTW, technically I'd be SEA, but until recently I lived around the corner from TIW (any guesses?)

TIW must be Tacoma, didn't realize they had their own airport, since SEA is SeaTac.

Welcome, gh1, I'm out on the far-west side in Forest Grove.

Mark, enjoy your visit, but you better pack your raingear... Saturday is looking pretty moist -- they're even talking about snow in the mountains. We're hoping the weather will keep the crowds down, as we're taking my visiting mother-in-law down to the Tulip Festival in Woodburn on Saturday.. the tulips finally came out strong this week so it should be a good show.

And to be honest, we prefer it that way. May I see your passport, please?

Mark, they're not just talking about snow in the mountains... they're talking about 2 ft this weekend.

gh1, 2 houses ago I lived on 47th between Stark/Belmont for about 3 years. Both my wife and I grew up in Portland. I also work in NW!

I'm a little concerned about the trip back Sunday. They are even talking about snow in the valley floor here Sunday night. That means we're sure to get some in the Blues on the way back. They have a driving range with a roof over the tee boxes in Hillsboro. Very Oregonish.

Wow, you're gonna be just down the road from me.. wish I had my Redwood to share with you but it's still at the mothership. Oh well, there will be other opportunities.

Do take care over Meacham/Cabbage Hill.. I always dread that stretch of road when I go through there in the wintertime. At least you shouldn't have to worry about ice in the gorge!

Hmm.. who was exploring that whole Vista House deal???

Passport?

Tacoma is close; TIW is Tacoma International West, actually in Gig Harbor.

Oh, gh1, welcome to the asylum!

Oh, not you, Andrew. You're a citizen. Just those barbarians outside the borders of Idawashgon.
