I'm coming back to enjoying guitar again after about a 10 year absence. :) In about '95, I bought a gorgeous Elite 12 String with a pearl white face. (not sure of the model now - and can't find one like it anywhere!) Long story short - life threw me a few lemons so I sold that one in '97 and now I'm coming back - and can't wait to get started all over again. My friends didn't believe me - so I sprung $5 on some picks to carry around to make me look official again. :) Anyway - I'm thinking of buying the 1778LX with black top next month - and then (because I really love a 12 string more) I'm going to order the ME 12 string but custom order it with the pearl white top instead of the black. Then it will be almost like what I had (cosmetically) except for the cutaway (mine was a 22 holer). I've been nosing around the internet for about 6 months looking at Ovations again - but hadn't ventured into a guitar store until last week. So the first trip into a guitar store in 5 years and when I walked in, the owner was talking with a rep (but I didn't know who he was repping!) Anyway... When I asked about what options I had for an Ovation 12 string, he said "I have a nice Alvarez in the other room." Of which, I said: "Ewwww... that's uucky. I definitely gotta have an Ovation - it's like a Mac/PC thing, ya know!" LOL The owner only had a couple of Applauses there. So when I glanced around and then told him which two guitars I was considering (an LX and the ME 12), the rep guy (he was Kaman but I didn't know it yet) musta thought I was a gift from God and the owner musta thought I was a "plant". LOL Then I when I asked the rep who he was (could tell he was a rep because he had a laptop facing him on the counter) and he just smiled... I started to laugh and said: "No... you mean to tell me you work for Kaman?!?!?" LOL Too funny. Truly a Karma moment. I should get a commission for helping that rep seal a good order from a new store, doncha think? This owner is just getting his first real Ovation inventory in next month - and I have first dibs on the LX. :) Anyway... Ya'll (I'm close to TX, remember) sound like you're having a great time here - I hope I get to meet some of you someday. Wishing you all a great factory trip! Sally in Colorado - who's giving up acrylic nails on the left hand on Monday. LOL 1778 LX probably in a couple of weeks 1598 ME in white pearl custom wannabe Ohhh... almost forgot: Martin Backpacker that I haven't seen in 5 years (loaned it to a friend and haven't seen it since!) Does that Backpacker count? LOL

As Tony indicate, there are a couple of real hard core guitar freaks in Denver that will increase your GAS pains fast. StephenT28 has some nice ones for sale. I never had fingernails. Now I have none on the left hand and the right ones are so long I have trouble typing. I don't know how women do it. And the Martin Backpacker doesn't count.

Personally, never liked the sound of 12 strings. I'm glad you folks are out there to expand my experience. Also, we here out in the Upper Left Hand Corner, are not all irascible ( ;) Mark) , the backpacker is fine -- sounds like crap, but a nice, portable travel buddy. Get rid of the acrylics on the left too -- go natural, better sound imho -- especially if you glue a bit of ping-pong ball under them. __--- g-fingerpickingonly-h1

I never could get used to finger picks, but haven't tried them in 30 years. If you're going to be irascible it helps to be old. I should try some of those metal ones.

That was eighteen years ago and I've done more gigging since than I ever did before. The next thing you need to look at is PA gear.

Like a few members mentioned, there are a few of us here in Denver that love our Ovations. Just curious, which store were you at that was going to start carrying O's? and yes, I do have some very nice Ovations available for sale. Since you like black, you might want to consider my black 1537....as a former lurker, you know this is one of the holy grails of Ovationland!

We have members in Denver, Littleton, Golden, and Morrison that I am aware of. Don't think we have any in Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, or the Springs. oh yeah...or further north in Fort Collins.

In the process, I am glad that I also discovered the OFC. Enjoy your Ovations! Surely, they will provide you with lots of company and music for many years to come. Don't worry about the backpacker. Many Martin peeps might think that it was the biggest mistake that the Martin company ever got into, but to me, it's still a guitar. During my years in college, one of my ex-roommate's buddies loved the outdoors, that he'd invite me every now and then to go on hiking trips. He brought his backpacker in one of the hiking trips that we did in the Adirondacks, and played it upon reachng the summit. The playability might get a little bit of getting used to, but it surely feels like we've accomplished a lot when we managed to strum and sing-along to the tune of Neil Young's "Sugar Mountain." Welcome to the OFC once again!

About the dirty socks.... they just add to the ambiance around here. No worries. We goils don't all like frilly curtains. Give me a good log house out in the boonies so far that curtains aren't necessary and then I'm right at home. About that 1537 - I'd be interested in looking at it. I really couldn't find what model number my old Ovation was (from about 1995) ... but it looked like a 12 string version of a 1537 - but it had a white pearl face. Wood epaulets. Gold machines. No cutaway. I can't even remember if it had the deep or medium bowl. Got any ideas what model number that would have been? (for the sheer trivia of it all) So... do any of the Denver people get together once in a while? I'm sure wishing there was a few that would get together at some coffee place once in a while just for fun. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone (and now I'll go pick up my own dirty undies in the corner) Sally

If they get together here, it'll probably be awhile before they let me play - at the stage I'm in again I would be the resident "Phoebe" from "Friends". For a round of Smelly Cat, look no further. :) There are alot of coffee places around that I would think would enjoy a few guitars making noise. And then, up in Denver, there is a coffee shop next to my friends' restaurant that always is almost as quiet as a library (love their coffee though) - anyway.. that one could use a little shaking up and ambiance. (Pablo's Coffee on 6th & Washington).

Doens't matter much to me though - I'm having fun. And, from the sounds of your posts, you'l have fun around these parts too. Just be careful feeding the animals (and you'll know who they are soon enough!) - 'specially those out in the boonies! ;)

Now I don't have as much time as when I was in high school or college, so the skill level isn't where it once was. They say, though, that learning to embrace imperfection is a healthy thing! You'll love the 1778LX. It's next on my list of guitars, but for now I get to play my daughter's 1778 Elite T.

Joined: April 2006 Posts: 176 Location: Denver Colorado | I bought mine in '95. So it could have been made maybe the year before (got it from a store new). Anyway, the best I can remember is that it had: 12 string GEORGEOUS pearl white top gold machines two knob pre-amp (never used that - wasn't into that) 22 holes - two wood epaulets no cutaway It wasn't an Adamas. I'm thinking it might have been some kind of Elite something or another It wasn't sold to me as a collectors edition of anything - or trust me - I would have remembered that and been even sicker about having to sell it for the $$$ !!!!
