Well i was looking here at the U681T-5 and saw that there are two models in the pull-down menu. But the descriptions are identical. The New B Stock is around $400 cheaper.

What's up with that? Anybody know.

Noticeable scratches, dents and/ or nicks. Typically a customer return or refurbished product. GUARANTEED TO PLAY PERFECTLY.

This is the legend for the New BStock

Check to see if they have them. Music123 isn't too up to date on its website.

Give them a call. About 2 weeks ago I called them to ask about the U681 and they said 1) they had none in stock and b) they would no longer be able to get any.

Things might have changed, but only 103 of these were supposed to have been made so I would guess that they have settled into good homes by now. I know mine is not going anywhere.

Dave,
How does the sound of a Ute compare to an ADI/ADII, I have a Ute (the only textured Top I own so far), and an SMT, their sound has a pronounced difference to me, but I was wondering about Textured Top to Textured Top? Anyone else's take on this would be appreciated also.

I find the U681 has more bottom end than any of my 14 fret Adamas. Dave

Dave,
Thanks -- my wife in a blind hearing test prefers my 74 1111-6 over all my guitars for a "full" sound, must be that "what your used to hearing" thing you posted in another thread.

Apples and oranges... I've got'em both and the Ute is just a different animal. Much deeper, more powerful sound/tone. IMHO of course.

The GC here in Tampa has a U681T in the store now. Saw it this weekend and got all excited. This is one of the guitars I really wanted to try. I mention this so that any really motivated OFCer's out there that might be looking for this guitar knwo that there is one around. I do not know if it is "brand new" it looked spotless to me. Anyone wants to know, PM me for particulars.

No,
Actually she is quite amazing, she let me get the ute, and order the #47 RI, so she can say whatever she wants.

You're obviously one of us fortunate ones. My wife actually (believe it or not) ENCOURAGED me to get a #47.   I almost committed to it, but ended up holding off in order to do a couple other projects.

I'll tell you, though, if #47 came with as an A/E rather than a straight acoustic, I'd have one on the way.

And BTW, I've found breakfast in bed is ALWAYS a good idea!

I recently sold a bunch of stuff on ebay and had enough scratch to try Music123's B Stock UTE. I ordered it, waited like a little kid for it to arrive, following its progress all the way from mid-America to NJ. It arrived (I was peeing by then), I opened it up, played it for a a while, put it back in the case, packed the case back in the box, and sent it back - sadder that I've ever been in recent memory.

The guitar was a mess in build quality with respect to the neck where it attaches to the body. I don't think it should have ever left the factory that way, and I can now really empathasize with you guys who got one of the first ones from Al and had to send them back. The fretboard was way high off the top of the guitar and there was some sort of black filler under it to fill the gap. It was also way low on the bass side and normal height on the treble side at the body, and it had a bend in the fretboard where it met the body and then started a downward slope as it proceeded over the body in the direction of the bridge. Did not have an FRG sticker inside the guitar. It was just sloppy.

So then I said to myself, "Well, Budny and Co. will make it right for me if I send it to them, so do I like it well enough sound wise for the $1500 it cost me to get it, to keep it?" I played it some, then I played my 1718, and my red T, then I played it some more, and played the others some more. I really wanted it to be "the one" like so many of my OFC brothers (and sisters?) have found. I know this is heresy, but for me, the sound just wasn't "it". It was really nice and well defined, but not amazing, which is what I really wanted it to be, and not $1500 worth for me. So I sent it back.

So, unless someone else has bought it, Music 123 should have it in inventory - it went back about three weeks ago. I think I'll keep looking for a nice, old legend roundhole to balance the herd ...

Everybody here, from what I can tell, who bought a U681T, loves it. Even if they had to go back to the factory. They came back perfect and people love the sound.

I had one on loan for a few weeks and never bonded with it. I'm not sure I can say why. Plugged in, it had one of the biggest and best sounds I'd ever heard. But acoustically, I donno, too much bass? I just didn't feel comfortable with it.

The problem is that Moody has no clue what a good gutar should sound like. He plays a 38 year old VHS tape of the GCGH for me and exclaims "Just listen to how good that guitar sounds." Yeah, whatever ...

The U681 is one of the best sounding guitars Ovation has ever made, in my opinion. However it needs just the right strings and just the right player. It's not a cowboy-chord guitar. I love hearing OTHER people play mine (people who actually can PLAY). My friend Lou visited on Sunday. He will only play Martins and came to see my new stuff. Seriously, he just hates the whole roundback plastic thing. That's fine with me, we all have our preferences. But I did get the U681 into his hands to show off the neck and he made it sound like a dream.

My U681 is perfect, no flaws, no rework, etc. It's just perfect. It was one of the last ones built (maybe THE last), since it was a custom order and I think they built all the standard ones first. I think by that time they had already had the few returns and were pretty tuned into extra close quality checks.

Dave's has no electronics.....

He may be right, that I don't know what a good guitar is supposed to sound like. My 3 chords sound pretty much so the same on everything I own... Or it may just be that I'm a wood top kinda guy..

That would explain why he "get's off" to playing his guitar so much!
