I'm about 50/50, although I'm known around town as an electric lead guitarist in a blues (or facsimile) band. I almost never play electric at home. I love to sit and fingerpick on my acoustics - usually the Legend, or the Matrix. I also have a really beat up 34 Martin 0-17 that plays rough, but sounds KILLER. It needs a lot of work though.
As for electrics, I'm mostly a Telecaster player. Teles into old Fender amps. I have two Deluxe Reverbs, and a Pro Reverb.
The older I get, the more I want to get away from electric bands, and make like Leo Kottke - just sit in a chair and jam all by myself, with no one getting in my way. I've just recently started doing some solo acoustic gigs, and I'm absolutely LOVING it!
So, what'er you? Acoustic? Electric? Part time acoustic, or what? |

Location: San Angelo, Texas | Plugged in Accoustic...or unplugged electric....just depends on where I am playing and rather I want to be heard or not.
Since fully 80% of what I do is leading Worship of some kind, I use my 1777LX or my 1866, either through the house, through my Fender passport system or through a Genz-Benz Shan 200 Stereo amp...so I guess that means plugged in accoustic wins.
For playing at home...up plugged! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm more than 99% acoustic. I have trouble with a pick except for strumming. I didn't realize I was just like Leo Kottke, sitting and jamming by myself. Except someone probably wants to hear him play. |

Location: cincinnati, ohio | I'm 100% acoustic/electric-- '71 Balladeer and '74 Pacemaker 12 string, both with retrofitted Fishman Acoustic Matrix Supernatural II pickups (no EQ or volume controls on guitars). Also have a Ibanez AEF18TVS to play gigs that might be risky to the Ovations' health (and possibly mine). The Ibanez has a Fishman Sonicore pickup and AES Shapeshifter EQ and volume controls onboard. Mostly play solo acoustic gigs, although I do play in an acoustic group as well. I run everything through a Roland AC60 acoustic chorus amp. Sometimes I put a Zoom 504II acoustic processor in the chain. I mostly fingerpick and fingerstrum; when I DO use a pick, I use a special Fred Kelly thumbpick called a "speedpick," which has a thin tab to strum with instead of the thick blade of a conventional thumbpick. I suck at using regular picks and have trouble hanging on to them, so these work great for me. |

Location: Avondale, AZ | I am more of the exception on this board, 100% electric. I don't currently own a acoustic. love to sit and fingerpick on my acoustics I remember the feeling Trag. I miss a good acoustic. I am just so ingrained in my electrics, that I would neglect any acoustic I'd own.
I am a 'Gibson through a Marshall' man. My friend who I often jam with and who I just loaned my ES335 to, is a 'Fender through Fender' guy. We get some tonesy blues. |

Location: North Carolina | It depends. For the last several years I hardly touched my acoustics, as I was playing in a band that gigged a lot. Now that I'm out of that and have been doing some solo acoustic gigs, I hardly touch the electrics. |

Location: GA USA | Gregory, as wierd as your habits are, mine are just about the same... lead worship sometimes acoustic - sometimes electric, play elec. unplugged at home.
I have been keeping the Deacon on a stand next to my bed. I go to bed, and get up, earlier than everyone else at home, and if it's right there, I will pick it up and play some every night. That's helped me progress with scales and new chord forms.
The more I play acoustic, the more I think I must be an electric guy. I just wish I had time to be a better player. |

I have the same problem - in reverse. The more I play acoustic, the more I wish I was a better electric player. I've played acoustic so long and it's my primary playing style, I never have refined skill as an electric player.
I just picked up a Viper solidbody, so maybe this summer I'll pick up a few new tricks. I'm not an old dog yet! :D |

Location: Central Florida | I play acoustic (I'm including a/e) at least 98% of the time now. If you'd asked this question 10-12 years ago, the answer would've been just the opposite. Back when I was a fulltime gigging musician, I played electric almost exclusively. These days, my main gigs are heading up our praise band at church and doing the "weekend warrior" thing as part of an acoustic duo. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Interesting thread. I use my Adamas mostly for leading Worship, totally acoustic on Wednesday night (small group) and plugged in Sunday's. At home, I have a "mini-studio" in my rec room, so am plugged in most of the time since I like the noise, either the Adamas, Ovation or Carvin (when I want to get really loud).
But sometimes, I will sit outside and play and sing acoustic.
I have an odd quirk, in that what little lead playing I try to do on the Carvin, I do with my fingers, rather than a pick. I think it is a carry-over from my primary instrument which has been bass. I just figured, oh well, until I saw some guy on PBS a couple of months back who did the same thing as me, rythym with a pick, lead with fingers. Any other electric players with his disability? |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Used to be 100% acoustic, but have acquired a couple of Strats in the last few months, so now the mix is around 75% acoustic, 25% electric. My playing approach is still pretty much acoustic, but I'm definitely mutating my style.
