Location: Phoenix AZ | This is what it looks like when you are done. It's a more or less permanent installation so be sure that 1) you don't need to play the guitar and 2) you don't mind making minor alterations to the guitar. This only works on guitars with center soundholes.
Materials required:
1 guitar
1 roll of masking take
1 toggle bolt
Tools required:
Screwdriver
1/8 and 1/4 inch drill bits and drill
Instructions:
1. The guitar will be bolted to the wall at the deepest point of the bowl. This point is approximately directly under the bridge.
2. Remove the strings.
3. Remove the saddle and in the middle of the saddle slot drill a 1/4 inch diameter hole through the bridge and soundboard. This is your access hole for attaching the guitar to the wall. Set the bridge aside for now. Shake any wood bits out of the guitar.
4. Locate where you want the guitar to be mounted and mark where the deepest point of the bowl contacts the wall. Drill a 1/4 hole through the sheetrock. Enlarge the hole to 1/2 inch using the butt end of the screwdriver.
5. Take the roll of masking tape and unroll all of the tape. It makes a great toy for your cat to get stuck on. Hang on to the cardboard "ring". This ring acts as the mounting stabilizer between the round back and the flat wall.
6. Locate the deepest point of the bowl. Drill a 1/8 hole at this spot. Reach inside the guitar soundhole and insert the toggle blot (minus the toggle end) through this hole in the bowl. Attach the toggle end.
7. While holding the head of the toggle bolt with you hand still inside the guitar, place the cardboard masking tape ring over the exposed toggle bolt on the outside of the guitar and then guide the toggle bolt into the hole in the sheetrock. Tighten the toggle bolt as much as you can by hand.
8. Remove your arm from inside the guitar. Take the screwdriver and guide it through the hole in the bridge saddle slot. Find the head of the toggle bolt and tighten it firmly on the wall while positioning the guitar at the angle and tilt that you desire. Remove the screwdriver.
9. Reinstall the saddle and strings. You're done.

Ah yes Brad...I see you have noticed my trophy Custom Legend..... It was back in '79 when Moody and I went on safari in south-central Kenya. We hiked with our guide Minabo for 3 days to reach the fabled Great Bowl Valley where to this very day, the Kaman tribe still dwell.
Now this particular Custom Legend lead us on a merry romp. It took all the tracking skills Minabo posessed and without the addition of Moody's gritty, P.I. street smarts, we would never have been able to corner the beast. It was early morning on the fifth day at the String Bridge over Saddle Creek when we caught him grazing. We stalked quitely through the bush to come within range. Suddenly the beast caught sight of Moody's island flowered shirt. This of course threw the animal into a rage fearing that a rouge male was trying to invade his breeding territory. Now Minabo knew better and I'll never forgive him allowing that shirt to come on the hunt. It charged at us in a raging fury. I barely had time to think. My shot was right on. The bullet went right through the saddle and out the deepest part of the bowl. He was dead but he didn't know it yet. The Deep Bowl Bull charged on and did not drop until he was at our feet.
Yes Brad..he makes a great addition to my trophy room. Perhaps you and I should go on a hunt some day, eh old chap? |
