As mentioned in another thread, we could collaborate on some projects if we know each other's strengths. What do you do well...

Play rhythm, lead, slide, mandolin, bass, uke, harp, dulcimer, sing, harmonize, arrange, promote?

Musically, I play 6 and 12 string rhythm guitar (I'm a pretty good fingerpicker and a decent strummer, but only rudimentary leads); harmonica (there are three styles of harmonica playing: straight harp, cross harp, and "close enough." Guess which one I am?); very primitive "Tuba-style" bass (BOOMP-boomp; BOOMP-boomp)-- works with some basic country tunes); and "claw-style" piano, which I RARELY play. I DO consider myself a very good singer and an instinctive harmony singer; the vocals are my real strength musically. I'm not a virtuoso player by any means, but by the same token, the instruments aren't just props, either.

As far as other stuff goes, I teach part-time (if you call 15 hours of classroom time a week "part-time,' which doesn't include prep time or things like grading tests and essays)at a local community college. I teach English Composition I and II; Technical Writing; Intro Psychology; Business English; Business Communications; Astronomy I and II; Geology; and Hydrology & Meteorology (note: I don't teach 'em all at once, obviously, but these are subjects that I can and do teach). I also work a 9 to 5, 40 hr a week day job at a local publishing firm and play music on weekends (and whenever else I can). Not too good with my hands, although I can replace or fix electrical stuff. I DON'T do plumbing--EVER! I also don't do wallpapering. Don't ever wallpaper a room with your wife unless you want a divorce (of course, if you DO want a divorce, that's a surefire way to get one!). We did that about 20 years ago--wallpapering, that is. We haven't done it since, nor will we ever again.

I agree. Unless you can slice her really really thinly, it's probably a better idea to use wallpaper.

Walking into a room and forgetting what I went there for, seems to be a natural talent for me.

Lead and rhythm guitar, bass, piano/keyboards and vocals.

And, since going on line and participating in this and other guitar related forums, I've discovered I have a unique talent for bringing many a thread to a screeching halt!

rick. This does not look good on a guitar player's resume. :D

Back to the tpoic of the post. I play fairly good rhythm and finger pick chords on slow songs. :)

Hey, Mike--

I wouldn't PUT that on my resume! Playing guitar is about the only thing I CAN successfully do with my hands, except for.... well, never mind.

Can't think of any. That's why I'm a lawyer.
Actually OK at rough carpentry and other fixit type stuff if the amount of time is infinite. I'll drink cheap beer if I have to or if I'm buying.
Raising really smart kids seems to be another talent, but everyone tells me the milkman was smarter than me.

The thing I really hate about plumbing, Mike, is that everything BECOMES an emergency--whether it starts out that way or not. You have a dripping faucet. No sweat-- take it apart, change out the washer, right? WRONG! You take it apart, and it comes A-PART! I mean REALLY apart, as in total disintegration. The only thing that had been holding it together was the corrosion. So now you've got the water to the whole house shut off because there wasn't a shut off valve to that faucet. What do you do now? You can't go to the big box stores like Home B.O. or Lowes, because the high school kids who work there don't know a faucet washer from a wall switch. So you go to the local hardware store. You show them what's left of the assembly, and when they pick themselves back off the floor after a fit of hysterical laughter, one old codger turns to the other one and says, " That's one o' them Price Pfister PF-27's. I ain't seen one o' them in 45 years. You seen one o' them in 45 years, Homer?" Homer replies, "Nope. I ain't seen one o' them in 45 years neither, Jethro. Yer gonna hafta get a whole new faucet assembly, boy."

And THAT'S why I don't do plumbing!!

Draw attention to myself-

Draw unemployment-

Draw my bath-

Rythym and some finger picking. Bass is fairly good, drums...I can keep a beat.

Oh...and in the spirit of all the other goof balls, I can overhaul a lawnmowever engine (used to be a car engine before 1980), fly a plane (and I am legally blind), and ride a big hurkin motorcycle that I only balance on my tip-toes...matter of fact, I might play guitar better with my toes.

They are fun to try and balance, aren't they, Jeff? Nothing like that moment when it feels like it's going over...
