In the earlier thread MWoody suggested something I'd love to do if any of you are interested in joining in. Since there seems to be a significant contingent of us who use our O's for leading worship, how about we do a few tunes together at the jam? I scanned through my list of tunes and have some suggestions that I think alot of us would know that I have cheat sheets for and would be happy to bring along. I'll include the list below, and if anyone is interested, post on this thread with your top three choices, any that you are completely unfamiliar with so we can avoid them if possible, and other tunes that I didn't list that you think would be good (and that you have cheat sheets/music for). When we settle on a few to do, we can send them to each other as PDFs via email so that we can look 'em over before we get there. OK ladies and gentlemen, have at it!

Blessed Be Your Name
Breathe
Days of Elijah
Forever
Holy Is The Lord (God Almighty) - Tomlin
I Can only Imagine
Lifesong (Casting Crowns)
Shout to the Lord
So Good to Me (Third Day)
The Heart of Worship
Who Am I
Your Are My King (Amazing Love)

This idea makes me want to come even more. Great list of songs. Don't think I will be able to make this trip. Bummer.

I spent some time last night consolidating and refiling a bunch of cheat sheets, many in a variety of keys (Papoose friendly).

We still get to argue over what is the perfect congregational key to sing in, don't we! :D

If anyone wants to email me I may have certain songs to send and I will try to put your name on a CD of sheets.

I was up on 11 of the 12 mentioned above.

These are songs that are performed on a regular basis in my church. I can't play most of them, and singing is limited mostly to the chorus, but I'd love to learn ... may I join in?

Perhaps, may we add "God of Wonders" by Third Day, besides the one suggested by GregoryS?

I find it interesting that so many of us know songs by James Taylor, CSN, P,P,& M, Dylan, Eagles, Beatles and Current Worship Tunes. Ever wonder what happened to the 30 years in between?

That would be the road to Damascus...

Or for me the 80's...

Ya know those things they said about acid in the 60's and 70's?...that explains so much about the 80's and why we can't remember what we played then...

The years in between (the 80's) were a lot of Maranantha music. I used to do that stuff and still have several books of it.

Into the 90's you can find a lot of stuff on the WOW CD's from those years.

It is interesting to me how a lot of even the older songs had collaberation by the new guys that were just not a household name yet.

Cool stuff, wish I were there.

Thanks, Temp!
I'd been looking for the proper chords to that XTC song for years, and all of the other online sources never sounded quite right . . . that arrangement seems to be spot-on (tho' those bass notes w/the chords are a bit of a bitch). . .

To all the praise players:

The goal on Thursday evening is for everybody to feel comfortable, relaxed, have a visit and see friends that they haven't seen in a while (and some they've never seen!). While I play in a church band, I don't think Thursday evening is the time to devote part of the night to church music. Save that for Saturday night (or even Friday evening -- Sunday morning?). Let's keep the music on Thursday fairly neutral and do tunes that everybody knows and are comfortable with.

No lines drawn. I think it's great to see those guys exercise their God given right to free choice! I plan on playing what and where I land.

It's just that all my present material is worship. I'm sure I can fake any of the R&R that's been recycled over the last 40 years.

Gotta do CCR's "There's a Bathroom on the Right"!

It's a delicate balance, on one hand there are a bunch of "worship" guys and on the other there are a bunch that are not. Mixing the two has got to be awkward.
Just for my 2 cents, but you can throw it out since I'm not there anyway, It's the music that's important so play that, whatever it is. When the "message" becomes more important than the music then the line has been crossed.
The other suggestion of having some get together specifically for the church stuff would be fine since that's the purpose of that gathering and those that aren't into that can not be there.

Cliff, I can get you copies of all the Kinky Freidman cds if you want.

I have no problem listening to a few jesus songs, but why overtly introduce something (relegeon, politics, race, etc.) that can serve no purpose other than to divide the group? Let's focus on something that brings us together (Ovation guitars). Everyone should be free to play whatever they want (I've worked up a nifty medley on Nazi Death Camps), but as Bill suggests, let's focus on the music and leave the messege where it belongs. Just my 2 cents. Dave

I do look forward to meeting and sharing with all of the OFCers. Its just that I really look forward to playing and bonding with some of those I've shared faith with over the last year or two. I wanna hear what you do in your church and what your going through.
I can't imagine all of the pre-jams and mini-jams took place one at a time and in order!

The only thing I don't want is name-tags, hate name tags.

In Seattle center we do a Bumbershoot event where there is a whole lot of "different" every time you turn a corner.

Amway has a different name now, doesn't it?

Hey, lets look at it like this: Bonus Music.

I'm sure everyone knows some really good classic rock, folk, country, etc, so let's share some "other" really good, fun to play, music. All are welcome, no one is going to get "preachy". It IS about the music. I hope to learn a few new tricks while I'm back there, maybe someone else can too.
