I can't believe this has happened. As some of you may know, I took a job with The city Of Dunn Police Department as a trainee working Dispatch. It was supposedto be 6 months training/probation then eithere a raise or extension of probation to get to know the job.Today at 3pm i was terminated due to lack of training progress. I started on Feb,22 today is May 23. Well so much for taking peoples word for it.It's back to the job market...I should have just gone to the ofc tour anyway..oh well! just bad news for today. I'll bounce back,..i just hate being jobless.

I would wager a large bet that every one of us have hit a tough row at one time or another. No question - it sucks but remember you always have friends here. You'll land again, Steve - just hang tough.

Steve, it is never too late to go into business for yourself (in a sense). Consider contacting your local ReMax, Coldwell Broker, etc and get into Real Estate.....or hook up with a local Insurance Agency and sell, sell, sell.

Most companies will train you and give you a decent draw vs commission while you learn the ropes and get your license.

Steve,

That is a bummer. To bad some jobs just don't work out. They should have a least givin some indication of thier expectations. If their word is can't be trusted, you're better off not working for them.

Good things will turn up I'm sure. Meanwhile play your guitar it's great therapy. :)

I've found being unemployed in the summer is best ... cold comfort, but if it has to happen ... the worst is christmas.

I'd like to have a drink with you ...

I have a story for you ...

To make a long story short, I was fired from one job by a corrupt lawyer who later stole money from his firm's pension plan ... but I digress ... we had numerous run-ins ... and after about 6 months of him dumping on me, I was fired, on a friday ... that night I went out with my friends, got drunk, and went to my parents. In the morning, over a cup of coffee, and before my Mom got up, I told my Dad I had some news and told him I was fired. He said he would help and we'd find a better job, and then he told me that the day before, my mother was diagnosed with cancer.
Fuck what a day.
Things got in perspective real fast.
So how did things turn out? Well, I got a new job within a month and didn't miss a pay check, and my Mom beat the cancer.
So what's my advice, have a drink, and hang in there, and if you do, it'll work out. I promise. Now have another drink.

I once had to fire a drunk lawyer right before Christmas. I really hated it. He later said it was a good wake up for his drinking problem, but he didn't stay awake long enough. But, most job endings are just new beginnings.

Let me add, that the "partner" got disbarred and went to jail. And I believe in Karma, what comes around, comes around, the guy who fired you will get his.

Being self employed, I often complain to my wife about how good it must be to have a regular job and a steady paycheck. She usually hits me up long side the head and reminds me that nobody has job security.

My dad always said that job security isn't having a job you can always count on... it's knowing that you can always find work.

He was right. And Steve, you'll be fine. This time tho', no selling guitars. You won't need to.

Steve...

Sorry to hear about the bad surprise.

(You'd think there would at least be a little job security during the prob. period, wouldn't ya?!?!)

Just keep your mind and eyes open and something awesome will land in your lap - just be awake to see it. :)

Wishing you the best,

Yes, Steve, if you'd been screwing off at work instead of working, you'd have seen our recent discussion about warm beer, and you wouldn't be any worse off.
Cruel, I know, but consistent with the theme that this is an opportunity to find a better job. I often wonder what I'd be doing if I had taken some of those "opportunities" that have come my way instead of hanging onto the same job for 28 years.
