When my 07C (no not a FRG) arrived I noticed that there is a 'hump' behindd the bridge, i.e. the top is not completely flat but there is a broad 'camber'. I'm told this is normal.

But I also noticed that there is a dip in the epaulet, see pics. I'm going to send these to Kim @ MS but was just wondering what the 'experts' here thought about this. Should I worry? (I am prone to do this :) ).

THe pics make it look worse than it is I think, the dip is about 2mm.

Love the sound of the 07C, and even better when plugged in. Right off to learn some more Doug Smith.

Sorry to feed your paranoia Dweez, but it looks similar to what was wrong with my '05 Collectors. (Yes, different configuration, but...)

One of the braces had popped off just above my soundhole and made the top dip between the bridge and fingerboard, also made the soundboard below the bridge to belly more than it should.

Mother fixed it. But mine was under warranty.

Apparently, the single hole Ovations belly a lot more than the elites, but it's perfectly normal. My 1768 Elite, on the other hand, is as flat as a billiard table, even when I open tune to E with 0.13's.

Take the access cover off and check out your bracing.

Lovely guitar Dweez. For the price you paid, you could pay to get it fixed and still be accused of theft.

BTW. What camera do you use? I've got a multi $$$ whizz-bang digital SLR and can't take photos like that. (The fireworks photos were more luck than skill.)

Checked inside, the bracing looks good. Is this bulge too much bulge?

dweez, my new FRG '07C has a slight dip through the epaulette area. It isn't detectible and I hadn't noticed it before without putting a straight edge across it. The dip in mine looks to be about 1/4th as deep as yours. FWIW. I wouldn't panic yet, it might not be that abnormal, and if it is abnormal it is probably a simple brace repair/glue.

The belly bulge on mine is about 1/4", maybe just a bit more. A bit less than yours from looking at the picture, but not as big of a difference as there is in the epaulette dip.

Ah sorry, yes it's a Pentax Optio S4i, tiny 4 mega pixel jobby, cost about £100 4 years ago. Things have moved on, I would like a 10 MP SLR then I could get some really nice shots

Dweezil, maybe it doesn't relief your pain, but I bought a legend LX new 2 years ago and it shows a similar bulge of your 07.
I was told this is quite normal and in a certain extent, the guitar is purposly builted that way. Do we have to believe that ?

Beautifully. I love ebony fingerboards so it ticks that box for me. I started out just loving SSBs but now like a deeper bowl too (this is a contour deep bowl BTW) as I tune down to a low D and low C so the deep bowl allows the bass notes to 'breathe'.

I suspect you ask because you might say hey if it plays OK don't worry, play! But I'm convered that it's a sign that something is not right and will get worse.

I ought to add that I'm not really bothered about the "dip" and the "bulge" just wondered if it's normal or something I should keep an eye on / fix etc. Sending it back to MS will cost a fair bit.

Anyhow pics sent to Kim@MS.

I believe Alpep said that the LX models were built with the top radiused or preformed that way... my 2771 lx came with it's own little bulge brand new.. and hasn't gotten any higher with mediums on it now.

I don't believe it's warping, but check with John and Kim.

That ever-so-slight "arch" of the LX tops is INTENDED t'be that way. It's DESIGNED that way.

In fact, when they route-out the spot on the top where they glue the bridge on, the have t'use a specially-designed router bit that "floats" on the surface of the top following the curvature.
