Location: SoCal | Well, after a lot of thought, I've decided to stop using Ovation built product and switch to Martin.
Of course, I'm talking about strings. I've been going thru one of those times where nothing sounds right. Adamas 1818 sound good, but I can't get them in stores around here. So tonight, I swung by a Guitar Center and bought the Martin, Clapton endorsed strings, light gauge, and put them on the FD14. They sounded great! I suspect that the 1818's would sound just as good, but I've got to figure out where to buy them.
Can I wear a Martin tee shirt now?
Where can I go to buy bulk 1818's? I used Elixirs for a long time, but am now feeling the desire to go back to uncoated strings. |

Heck, I picked up three packs of 1818E's at GuitarTrader at the last Chop Shop. I can get them at my GuitarCenter. Google shows a number of sources. Heck, World Music will even offer a free string winder when you get the 10-pack of 1818's (for $44.99)
I even use the 1818 or 1818E's on my Martins.

FWIW, I like the MARkeTINg SP phosphor bronze sets, but they die in about a week... |

If you haven't tried the 1818's on the UTE, you need to! I had been toying with trying out some medium strings, but there is no need in this case.
Maybe the 1681?? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I really like the sound of Martins as well. But they go dead pretty quick compared to others. I've gone the EXP route and yes they sound nice and last pretty well but the cost is high. I think I've more or less settled on the regular old EJ's. They're cheap enough I don't mind changing them often. Heck, might as well spend my time restringing my guitars because I sure don't spend time playing them. Dave |

Location: Tampa, FL | Has anybody here tried Webstrings and the opted not to use them? I have been pretty much using 1818's and webstring's Portland acoustic lights. Just wondering how other's might evaluate these.
On another note, I recently bought a 1768-C that came with new strings. These strings have a slightly different feel to them, sort of a slickness. Might this be what others refer to as 'coated' strings? The ends are brass but with holes in them as opposed to solid like the 1818's. |

Yeah, I like the Savarez Argentine MF1610's on the U681T allot. I finally had to change them, as they had been on there since a couple of days before the tour. they were totally thrashed. I've got some on order, but they haven't arrived yet. If you played/heard it at the tour, you know what I'm talkin' about.
I put 1818's back on it. I like them pretty well on just about every guitar. Not too bright. Not to dark. They last longer than cheaper strings, and sound/play better IMHO than many other expensive and coated sets of strings. |

Location: NJ | Years and years (and years) ago, I used to use MartinMarquis, and I probably just bought 'em because of the "Martin" name (hey, I was "young" THEN . . .)
From there went to NashvilleStraights (remember them??) Sounded good and lasted a long time (at least until they stopped making 'em).
Bounced around to various brands/types of the years, and finally settled on the D'Add EJ's.
Gotten very comfortable with the sound/feel, and have been using 'em for many years.
Somebody gave me a set of DR (anybody ever tried these?) PhosBronze Meds t'try.
We've been "off" for three weekends (thankfully, 'cuz I've been sick as a dog this past week), and when I "gear up" for the next onslaught of gigs, I'll give 'em a try (or maybe go the 1818 route). I've gone back t'Martin's, and don' like 'em.
It's not I've been unhappy with the D'Add/EJ's.
I was just thinking that it might be time to "change things up" a bit . . .
(that and it might inspire me to FINALLY empty the cigar boxes full of the torn-off D'Addario "Players Points" and redeem 'em for that D'Add. Winnebago & drive down t'visit Bill . . .)
Anyone know of a good 12'er set comparable to the D'Add EJ38's?? I tried Martin's, and they suck big time . . . |

Location: Orange County, California | I think I wrote something about the DR mediums awhile back. Really nice, and probably the longest lasting uncoated string I played. I probably got 20hrs out of them. I should get some lights, and try them again (perhaps on the C2078LX). I'm not sure what's going to happen in the future since GHS is now polygimized to Kaman, and D'add *seems* to be out on their own again. That said, I found the EJ11's to be VERY similar to the 1818's ;) If GHS starts making them, I hope they don't screw them up. I also hope to see some more of those neat loop ended things Bill like's :D
