A sympathetic nod to our Arizona brethren ... it has been crazy hot in the SF Bay Area. Here in El Ramon, a record high of 109 on Friday, another record high of 111 yesterday, and who knows what today will bring but it's already 95 at 0930. Our average summer temps are the high 80s. The good news: yes, I have a pool. The bad news: it is drained and out of service as the renovation has been underway for three weeks. A/C? Haha, surely you jest! This is the coast ... we don't have A/C except in malls, movie theaters, and new homes.

I know a lot of other spots around the country are baking, too. How's life in your neck of the woods? If you have some cool air to spare, please send it west.

Friday was 118. The photo below is 112 - IN THE SHADE. Don't let the swimming pool in the photo fool you, it's still damn hot. However, looking over a 365 day span there is still just about no place I'd rather live. Dave

I was in Carlsbad (on the coast) yesterday - 76 degrees at 11am.

As I am a couple of miles inland, it was probably about 85-88 degrees. Fortunately, replaced a/c and furnace last year.

Hi,

It's not better in Europe.
Last week, we've had between 95 and 100 in Paris during 5 days!!
Unfortunately, I don't have A/C or a pool and the temperature is always near 86 night and day in my small flat!!!
You can easily imagine what it can be because Paris is not Arizona... :D
When you're outside, the air is so hot that it's hard to breath.

In 2003, we've had the same weather during 3 weeks and more than 10 000 people have died during this period in the entire country.
We were not ready to have such a hot summer and all the hospitals were completely full and busy!!

At this time, its good to be a tourist in Paris but surely not to be at work.

I've seen on TV that it's the same in Germany, Holland and UK.

I'm seriously thinking to emigrate in Alaska!!! :D

J :)

So far this summer our highest temp has been 101, but around Houston the humidity is always at least about 70%.

This was last September 27, and the humidity was about 85%.

There's no such thing as a house without a/c down here, and its a constant chore to keep the condensation drip pans draining freely so they don't overflow!

Stone--now's the time for you to come on over to Atlanta where the first tall cool mint julep is on me!

Oh, it was only 84 here today (moodypi, I take back what I said about global warming...)

In the hammock, in the shade I am,

We Ohioians are use to our weather changing every five minutes...NOT KIDDING. Last week was absolutely insane...high 90's and 70-80% humidity. Since I have to work outside, jeans, shirt, boots, hardhat and harness I've had about enough of this crap!!!! I get home in the A/C and I don't want to move. The humidity is a frekin killer, I like the heat out west...93 with like 6% humidity. I think I'll move to Arizona!

106 here yesterday, but like Phoenix, "it's a dry heat." Worked on the cabin this weekend. It was 94 at 5000 feet elevation. It was the second time in 15 years that it was so hot that I wanted to go swimming in the lake. Wife didn't pack the swimsuit, though.

It's pretty bad over here too. At last nights gig I was melting. It was so hot my shirt was wringing wet half way through the first set. A huge bead of sweat dropped from my forehead directly onto the preamp of my Nylon Viper, then halfway through the next song the guitar cut out. Managed to get through the rest of the set with mando, Weissenborn replica and dulcimer, but didn't make the connection between the droplet of sweat and the preamp failure. AS a long shot I sprayed the controls with electrolube and it cameback to life.

That afternoon we played a festival and when I took the nylon Viper from the case I found I had a broken D string. I changed the string but didn't feel confident using it because nylon strings take so long to settle and we were due onstage within minutes. A guy in the previous band graciously offered me his Martin, a triple 0 16 with a Fishman blender system onboard. Nice guitar apart from the wussy extra-light strings, but could I hell get a decent sound out it. Sounded fine for back-up but as soon as I took a solo it had the typical thin gutless piezo clank I detest.

105 in Potland. Not dry heat, straight muggy. I left my windows open for cool night air, turns out the next morning was 85 degrees at 7:00 am.

Nice and cool here in SOMD ;)

Low 80's straight through the last few weeks....

And to your request stonebobbo, well, let's just say I've never been good at sharing ^_^

No gigs yet this summer, maybe some at a local bar, but those are at night and nice and air-cooled ;)

It's been pretty cool in CT, some hot days last week when I was at National Summer Guitar Workshop, naturally the class I was in was in one of the rooms that didn't have a/c. It got a little warm.
It's like a North Carolina morning today, in the 60's and will probably get up to the 80's this afternoon. Only wish I was in Carolina.....

A week ago it was right around 100 out, and the AC went out at church. Ugh. The part I hate the most is my right arm getting all sticky on the top of the guitar.

Even though there's been intermittent rain/t-storms(and hail), it's been hazy, hot, and f@ckin' MIZerable in NY/NJ.
The sun finally came out yesterday afternoon, so we packed the beach-bag with a bottle of coconut rum (from the cruise) and some ice, and went to the town pool till it closed at 8pm.

My heart goes out to the 20-30,000 (if not more) people in Queens, NY who've been without electricity for 5-6 DAYS. The ancient, underground "feeder" cables literally FRIED and have to be dug up, cut-out and replaced. The intermittent storms aren't helping, as they're flooding-out the manholes . . .

I feel bad for you guys with high temperatures - your strings must last only about a week - maybe less with all that heat/sweat and humidity getting all over it.

But for me 24/7 mine are in the basement next to a dehumidifier, which is nice and cool, probably why my strings last so long as my fingers won't sweat when I play down there ;)

Worked Sat & Sun in the garage working on my son's jeep engine. Felt like working on a car the motor had just been run. Moscow usually doesn't get above 95 so the 105 is extreme for us. We were very thankful fot the central air I always thought was a waste of money. The wife reminded me of my previous rantings.

At this time last year, we had a much longer stretch of hot, humid weather.

Bad News: Central A/C unit "went South".

Good News: It was covered by our AmericanHomeShield policy.

Bad News: It took about 6 weeks to build a custom unit to replace the one GE doesn't make anymore.

Good News: It only cost us $50 for the replacement.

Needless t'say there were a lot of fans whirling around at our place, a lot of time spent at the pool, and a lot of time walking around the house naked . . .

(btw: I HIGHLY recommend AmericanHomeShield)

I swear my wife can remember every dumb thing I ever did or said, and a few she made up. My daughter in Moscow just bought an old VW van with no AC. They wouldn't ever need it in Moscow, she said. 95 in McCall is as hot as I ever remember it. No AC in the cabin, but the guitars are in the nice cool basement at home. I went for a swim in the pool last night (with a swimsuit, Cliff) and the water was almost too warm.

See now that's why I love it up here...only got up to 36 this weekend. 41 in the South Okanagan.

Amazing how the temp drops right at the border like that!
