They are "interesting" in that the enture soundboard and bracing is made of plastic. Well, one showed up on ebay last week for $180. and I grabbed it just becasue it seemed like a cool thing to have. I mean, it's the ultimate tupperware, right? Plastic bowl and lid. I have to admit I didn't really pay much attention to the auction details. That's usually a recipe for disaster, except in this case. The guitar shows up today and it's, well, amazing. Not a spot on it. Absolutely show room condition. I picked it up and it just felt "perfect". How could this be? Well, it's a 1-3/4 wideneck, 12 fret, deepbowl, acoustic only, slothead. Sound like something I would like? You bet. Action is a little low, but I'll fix that. I have to say this thing is really amazing. Now, you're not going to confuse the sound with an FD14 or anything like that. But I have to say for someting that has a plastic top and plastic bracing it sounds amazing good. Certainly WAY better than a lot of cheaper wood top guitars out there. I could not be happier. I'll post some photos when I get a chance. Dave

Not because of the sound (even if it's surely good) but this model a small part of O's history for a very good price. There's one for sale on Ebay but unfortunately, the seller don't ship outside USA. ACADEMY ON EBAY Good luck to Johnnycash with this sale... ;) And enjoy your Academy!! ;) Do you have a plastic strap for it??? I'm sure that Tom will be able to do a special one for you. He's a Tupperware stuffs specialist!!! :D J :)

Phenolic is made from paper and resin. Ovation also used Phenolic for saddle shims. The Academy tops are completely different to Stonges Adamas proto. It's not a plastic top. It's phonalic --- made out of the same material as a computer board. Stonge's Adamas is made from the same material. Back in the 50's Mario Maccaferri made injection molded plastic guitars, violins and Ukes. The Ukes worked best, but the guitars sounded pretty good too. The Academies are way better.

And by the way, NOBODY congratulated me on cracking 1000 posts in under 9 months. Coupled with my former gay lover Standingovation that's a combined 6000. How pathetic is THAT? Hay, anyone notice that that rat-ass has been purged from the OFC history? 5k useless, smart-ass posts and it all gets expunged to the eather. I wonder what the hell HE did ???
