Joined: August 2005 Posts: 3736 Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I was looking at the post count for the membership and thought I wasn't doing too bad. I was on page 6 of 252. Then I started exploring backwards (from 252) and found that, from half way down page 18 to page 252, (20 members per page) all those members have zero posts. By my reckoning, of the 5060+ members, about 4660 members have never posted anything. That means that there are only really about 400 active members. Thanks to the other 399 great guys n gals that make this the best bar in the world. (cheap beer too!) ...and no, I'm not bored. I've actually got a lot of work/study to do, and I'm procrastinating!

At least three times each week I see a "new member" notice, and it's followed shortly after by an email from that person with a question. I answer, I always add a comment about "you might want to post in the forums for a more detailed response" and that's the last I hear from them. They got what they needed, and that's great, that's part of why we are here. Of the current 5047 members. 2067 have posted at least one messages. 261 have posted more than 10 messages.

So far I have been very pleased with what I see but I don't have anything to offer yet. Rest assured once I get started you will not be able to stop me. Thanks-Mark

Joined: September 2006 Posts: 143 Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | I suppose I represent the 'inactive' membership to some extent, having only a few posts to my name. Miles and Al are absolutely right: I lurked, and read, and lurked and read before posting. I've benefitted enormously from the information on the board; this has directly helped in the purchase of 2 Collectors in the last 3 months. I've been helped directly by Paul T to acquire some ebony tuners (impossible otherwise here in the UK, unless ordered from the USA). I also have laughed a lot at some of the jokes, avoided falling into the 'strings, string tubes and llama' traps (not going to ask...) and overall I've been very impressed with the supportive nature of the forum. Oh, and its good to see that some people aren't shy about their spiritual and religious side too. I'm a member of other boards related to other subject areas, and sadly there is little of the humour and kindred spirit evident here; instead there are flame wars, self-appointed experts and very insular viewpoints. This is a nice place: I like it here and I intend to stick around (despite jokes about my name from Schroeder :) ) HW

You might want to come to the factory tour to see how Al got this little lady to agree to go back to his room with these 7 guys... Take note of whose U681T she chose to play with :D :p :D :p So are you suggesting to me all of the stuff Miles told be about the "Chicks" is false? Mark ;)

Carefully and statistically analyzing the professions (what is that saying...90% of statistics are made up on the spot), the largest segment of member looks to be centered in the category "Artists". Cool, I would expect that, but then it is followed by a large number of Accountants, Bankers and Architects. That tells me either....A) This is a very weird group of musicians (the word rententive comes to mind) or B) That based on the recommendation from these very conservative, value minded professions, the Ovation/Adamas represent the best price/performance guitars on the market. Or maybe it is both A & B? I will choose to believe B, although my gut is telling me A.

Just that he was smart enough not to post it. Notice the response I gave. Another pointer: a proper fear and kissuppityness of the moderators can't hurt.
