Joined: August 2006 Posts: 122 Location: Tucson, AZ | ...not (overtly) trying to be elitist or anything, but am curious "how many" (or few?) people own/play a EA68 "routed-body" electric-acoustic VIPER? ...love the tone and body, but the "raw" neck and lack of fret markers are "demerits" in my book. | ||

He posted a number of pics of himself playing his Viper on stage while backing up Shania Twain, among others. Nice work if you can get it. | ||

Joined: January 2006 Posts: 5881 Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | We're not positively sure what the finish is, but several knowledgeable members suggest that it is a VY code, meaning Vintage Sycamore, which is bright orange with a slightly darker burst toward the edges. Whatever it is, the flame stands out remarkably. | ||

Joined: January 2005 Posts: 640 Location: boulder | Professor i saw the one you bought off ebay, (well I think). It looked orange to me :D I have a blue tamo viper ??? and a book viper. I believe there were less then 30 of each of these made. :cool: they both feel like an electric, sound like an acoustic. As for finishes. I have also seen recently the blue/yellow flame design on a viper ea-68. so that's natural, blue tamo, orange (vintage sycamore-if you must), flame design...peace, mike | ||

When I use my own PA or know the venue or sound engineer I'll use a "real" acoustic Ovation, but for everything else the Vipers are just total problem solvers. Plug into anything, regardless of component quailty or sound engineer incompetence and it's impossible to get a bad sound. Mine are just the shitty black finish versions, but I guess the fancy finishes must sound a lot better. | ||
