Location: ranson,wva | ive often wondered what caused the change from shiny fiberglass to textured fiberglass to molded black textured lyracord to brown then back to black.....any answers here? im sure bill has the story..jason |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The whole evolution of bowls back in the day is most likely based on manufacturability and cost. There was some logic in the 70's to the brown vs. black thing. I think natural top models with chrome hw got black and gold hw got brown. Black tops always got black bowls. Sunburst was usually black, except on Thursdays. |

The color comes mainly from bilirubin, a pigment that arises from the breakdown of red blood cells in the liver and bone marrow. The actual metabolic pathway of bilirubin and its byproducts in the body is very complicated, so we will simply say that a lot of it ends up in the intestine, where it is further modified by bacterial action. But the color itself comes from iron. Iron in hemoglobin in red blood cells gives blood its red color, and iron in the waste product bilirubin gives rise to its brown color. |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I thought my 1768 (gold hw) had a black bowl. Then, last weekend when I saw it in the sunshine, realised it was brown. Not a lot of difference between the shades.
I do covet an old brown hard case though. |

maybe its just that my o's with black bowls are the old fiberglass and the texture is worn off and they catch the light more?? who knows..jason |

WOW Jeff after reading your explanation you gave me flashbacks to when I was taking my Clinical Chemistry course at St. John's Univ. Mitchrx also may have had Professor Lau Cam. He was a chinese professor who grew up in Cuba. He had a very thick spanish accent.
There was one time in class that he was telling us what topics were on the next exam. He was trying to tell us the next exam will be upto and including Steatorhea(Mitch sorry if the spelling isn't correct).This concerns blood in the stool Due to his thick accent some of the class couldn't understand him. He repeated the word a number of times. All of a sudden someone yelled out in the front "It's upto SHIT". The whole class and even the professor laughed :D :p . |

Pickups and neck plates particularily.

I was able to find a mini-bucker in gold that I want to try in one of the solids.

I always liked to think of Lee as one of the most honorably conflicted men of notable history, but as a California native I'm not supposed to have a "serious" opinion of anything Civil War-related. ;) |

Andrew, I'm an native of Arizona. They kicked ME out and LET Witko in... should give you some idea of Viriginia's standards....
And no doubt, Lee is regarded as a veritable god in VA and points south and he was very conflicted over the cause, nature and outcome the "The War of Northern Aggression" i.e. Civil war.
I should come clean and admit that I have little esteem for anyone who organizes or participates in campaigns to kill other people. |
