I'm new here fellows :)
about a month ago, after great protest, I let a fellow guitarist talk me into trying a ovation at GC after 26 years of cursing their very existance. I have always played martins,Taks and alvarez.would not even pick up an ovation.with the exception of about 10 years ago but I did not know it was a $199.00 celeb nor did I know ovation had low priced guitars so of course I hated the sound.my playing buddy assured me this HAD to be what happened. heh heh.... yeah, thats what happened alright! the sales guys hands me a 1771 LX and I played it. and I smiled. the sales guy smiled. my buddy smiled. then I had to laugh... a lot.I told the sales guy I had cheated myself out of 26 years of playing ovations. he starts laughing and says "you been playing 26 years? I would never have known" I tell him I must make up for it by buying lots of ovations. he stops laughing
I bought two. the 1771LX and a 1777LX. I have to have more. I love the sound and I love the way they play. don't get me wrong I still love my martin and will keep it, the alvarez and taks are gone. new room for ovations. I hope they have good frets, I wear those out fast. death grip? my old forums don't care for me talking about ovations, most the other boards loath the very name ovation. maybe they need to go with my buddy to guitar center  I can't stay at those boards if I can't talk about O's. so here I am guys. I've got a lot of frets to wear out to make up for 26 years and I'm only getting started with this little Legend. awww...the cute little thing is blushing a transparent burgandy color at me as I type this... heh heh....the 1771 is full of envy and for good reason ;) uh oh.. here comes the wife, she reads this, she'll think I'm cheating on her....latter guys...wait.. did I mention I love my ovations...?

take care all,
scott

Man, there's nothin' that warms the heart of us addicts more than seeing someone takin' a hit off the pipe for the first time and watchin' their eyes light up in realization. And hearin' about it is almost as good. The good thing about this addiction is it won't make you sick. It'll make you broke, but it won't make you sick (circumstantial evidence on the OFC board, to the contrary).

Welcome aboard, FJ, but be careful. There are 1537's, Fud's, Ute's, 2080's and (GASP!) 47RI's out there and they take no prisoners.

wilblee,
I think the addiction has made me both sick and broke. last two days I have taken sick leave to stay home in anticipation of ups delivery on yet another legend and if I don't get back to work I'll be broke..lol

I told the young man repesenting GC that he would sell a lot more ovations if he would not hang the nice ones up so darn high you can't reach them. all the celebs are down low ???
you grab the wrong one of those puppies and you'll walk out wanting to take up the drums.

That's a story that's been told a million times over, FJ. They won't hang 'em in the nice room either even if you do get lucky enough to find an Adamas out there (which is rare but don't get us going on that). If you're lucky enough to be on the right side of the country, stop by the annual Factory Tour in the Spring. You'll play guitars that will rival anything you've ever had in your hands.

I should have said it won't make you really sick. It'll become obvious as you hang around the forum that it can definitely make you apparently sick.

Welcome FretJob. We've been likened to cult - I call us O'cultists. These O's are like the old Lay's potato chip ad line - betcha can't stop at just one (or four or five or ...) :D

And you're even permitted to 'enjoy' other guitars around here without fear of snide rejection...with the possible exception of Taylor.

You got it bad, FJ. You were fortunate to find an Ovation friendly salesperson at GC. You are off to a good start.

FJ,
Like you I fell in love with the first Ovation I heard and played. It just took me another 5 years to find a US made O that I could afford. Enjoy your O's, and welcome to the club.

thanks for the welcome guys. wow! solid bodies. yummy, may have to check those out. friends came over tonight for a little jam session and they all loved the LX sisters, I'm a little partial to the Legend and so were they. one new guy was playing a very nice addamas and this thing was VERY loud, such amazing sound from tiny little holes, I gotta have one of those next. his was a blue textured finnish with a deep bowl.the other 1777LX will be here tomorrow its should have a tear-drop finnish. (not sure if I'll like that yet) too bad I didn't know about the deep bowls initialy, I would have DB's on these other three.I thought there was only one size. you guys take care, I've stayed up all night playing again and have to be at work in 4hrs. oh yeah... after watching the nancy wilson vid on the other post.... all I can say is wow!!! this chick can realy spank a string. she can spank me too ;) heh...heh..
