The other day I was awakened by a sound in our bedroom. It sounded like someone was in there. Carefully going down the hall, the first thing I saw when I looked into our bedroom, was the miniblinds off one window and the curtain hanging down with other items overturned. Then I saw him, beady eyes and all. He fell to the floor on the other side of our bed and I fell to the floor on my side. We just laid there, looking under the bed at each other contemplating what to do. I should have gotten a gun first. I had shut the bedroom door so he couldn't get out, so I threw something at him to make him move. He did and headed for the door. "I've got you now", I thought. Wrong! He went under the door. I never dreamed a squirrel could go under such a tiny gap! Now we have a squirrel loose in the house and I don't know where to look, opened outside doors hoping he would leave. Set a live trap, gave him a chance. Came in at noon the next day, he was hungry also. Been in a new loaf of bread, tore up things around the windows again, droppings on the floor. I was really tired, so decided to nap first. He woke me up. After the third time I slowly turned around on the couch and he was looking at me from the bar in the kitchen. I was well armed by now, pumpup air rifle, a 22 rifle and a very bright flashlight. I thought I saw where he went and proceeded to the corner of the counter top, slowly pulled out the toaster, then the coffee pot and YES, there he was behind the wok. Without going into the details, let me say that it came to a satisfactory conclusion for yours truly, and rat shot at 10 inches ain't to be ignored.

The guy who "won" was a NYC fireman who's wife was divorcing him and he needed to raise money to pay for a lawyer. While they ripping the hair off his back, the DJ's had the foresight to play the guy's "wedding song" in the background. Sorry if I veered off-topic Brad, but I'm afraid I'm fresh-out of squirrel stories . . .

Joined: December 2001 Posts: 10582 Location: NJ | squirrels are the enemy. I had them in my attic pre addition stage. they ate through wires, scratched through the drywall at one place and I think I even had one die in the walls. (all I know is he isn't scratching any more) the lovely and talented suzipep would not allow me to harm them so I had to use the havahart traps. I was on a govt squirrel relocation project for months. I kept count on the refergerator, after 80 squirrels trapped 5 birds 16 chipmunks and a possum I gave up keeping score. what I noticed was when I relocated a group of them another group would move in. I think I finally thinned out the population enough so that they don't come back, plus the new siding closed up any and all holes they may have had as entrance. I hate squirrels they are rats with fur

Hopefully, I closed the openings up while they were out shopping. The past few years we didn't seem to have many, this year they are everywhere. Also the coyotes are plentiful and big with fine coats of hair. Thankfully, they don't come in the house. We also are overrun with feral hogs. A sow can have three litters a year, so not much hope of eliminating them. Merry Christmas to all.
