Location: Zion, Illinois | Well, just when I thought I had overcome that dreaded illness GAS, it struck.
I sold my lifelong friend, my Glen Campbell 12-string to some Alaskin Guy (may he ROT in heck - just kidding) to buy a wooden Breedlove 12-string.
A couple of years later I still regret it. The Breedlove sounds great, but it never plays as well as my Ovation. I took it to 2 luthiers to try to improve the action, but none of them could make it play as well as my Ovation.
So, I decided to sell the Breedlove and buy another Ovation. I also wanted a Adamas since I might retire to another place where it is hot and humid.
The problem was I found an Ovation on EBay: an Adamas 12-string in mint condition. After thinking it over for about 10 seconds I placed a bid for what I thought would be the maximum I would be willing to pay for it. I won!!!
The problem is that after checking more deeply into this guitar I found that the seller had just bought it recently for under $1000, whereas I paid $1475!
Was I a dunce?
Or did he get a steal and just made a nifty profit from a dunce?
Or should I just be happy since my research showed (I thought) that $1475 for a mint Adamas 12-string was a fair price?

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | My first OK [Ovation-Korea] cost me $351 plus s/h. I've seen them go for less since! I've also seen them go for more. I try not to let it bother me. (I just got a good deal, so Karma is being good to me.)
The evil side of me shops some of these guy's history for fun (and boredom). In the last 3 mo. I've seen the same O's bought and resold a coupla times. Just be happy with what you've got. [I think there is a thread about that.]
BTW I just played with a $800 Breedlove 12 at GC, it was nice. |

if i had the $1475 to pay for the guitar you bought, i probably would have! in fact, i was monitoring that auction closely. looks like a very fine guitar and worth the money. the seller got an exceptional bargain back in october. |

No reason that you would have known but the problem was that it shouldn't have gone over $1,100. Worth a lot more but that is about what they have sold for over the past couple of years ($860-$1,050).
Dan and I were trying to get that for him as he needs a shallow bowl. Dan is the member that is selling the Adamas Q on eBay as it is a mid-bowl.
So, Dan may have to do a special order. |

Location: SoCal | Bradley, You did good. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If the guitar is in the condition claimed by the seller, you have a great textured top shallow bowl Adamas. Ebay is riddled with people trying to buy low and resell high. Your seller capitalized on a slugish market, but for mint condition, they did not scam anyone. |

Capitalism is alive and well! Even in Communist China. I love how the American Capitalists get mad at them for making bootleg copies of EVERYTHING, including auto parts. Then hires them to make my GC057.
But buy low/sell high is the American Way. (sux donut) |

I have a guitar or two I'll bet I could have got for a better price. But I have never regretted the purchases.

That said, we've all gone thru the same thing at least once, and at least for me, I've learned my lesson. Before any guitar related purchase I always research the price, quality etc. Determine what it should be worth. And then buy it. Live and learn. Don't sweat it and move on. I never feel like the item I'm looking at it is the last one. There will always be another guitar. And if anyone tells you otherwise, tell 'em to get lost. |

| Also agree - your enjoyment of the guitar is what counts, and you can't begrudge a a guy making a profit. I also wanted this particular guitar, and would have been happy to spend the $1400+ had I had the cash on hand. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | It could be worse, you could be stuck with that Breedlove or another guitar that don't play and sound as good as an Adamas. How much is that worth to you? If you're hungry for something, you pay the price. I have never regretted buying an Ovation.
If you feel you paid too much, you have the additional benefit of bragging rights. I love to hear the rich people down here in Atl brag/complain about their contractor who ended up charging double or more, be inconvenienced, delayed, jerked around, etc... after they've called the guy every name in the book, say "but he sure does good work!" and the other party asks "can I have his number?" |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | It can be vexing when you buy something only to learn the seller recently got for much less. But I agree with others that that fact is a moot point. What really matters is whether you what was described for the price you paid. I hope you LOVE this guitar. |

Location: Utah | When I bought my duaghter her 1778T-RF from Guitar Center, I paid about $900 out the door, including guitar, case, a few extras, and tax. GC paid less than I did, and they made a profit.
There's always a better deal that somebody finds, but the question is really whether you are happy with what you got for what you paid. |
